The Dream Daemon's Home Invasion

Wolfie reaches home expecting collapse, not wonder. His house is breathing, its stone walls shivering into mist, then back again, like a mirage that learned his address.

Inside, the living room has become a dream built on a dare. Floorboards curve into arches overhead. A window hangs where a hearth should be. Light spills through impossible angles.

In Wolfie’s favorite chair sits The Stranger, slim and bright, skin and hair split into two clean tones. He works the air with lazy fingers, smiling as the room folds around him.

The Stranger

The Stranger

There you are. I was starting to think you might nap through the whole transformation.

A ribbon of translucent stairway curls up the far wall and vanishes into a ceiling that keeps rearranging itself. The whole place hums with soft, unreal power.

The Stranger

The Stranger

Beau Blumenthal, at your service. Tell me, Wolfie, are you ready to see what happens when a nap becomes a permanent dream?

Wolfie

Wolfie

The room is not staying in one shape.

Beau tilts his head, still smiling, but the dreamscape tightens around the door, as if waiting to see whether Wolfie stays, speaks, or tries to push through it.

✓ Quest Accepted

Investigate the house

Ah... Wolfie. *He looks over this interesting character, crossing his arms, he's not hostile, just curious*

FAILURE (Superb Perception, rolled -4)

The Dream Daemon's Home Invasion

Wolfie folds his arms and studies the stranger. The dream answers first, not the man, its surfaces sliding just enough to blur the edges he tries to pin down.

The room slips on him. The chair, the window, the arching floor all tug at his gaze, trading places when he blinks. His neat read of the space comes apart in pieces.

The Stranger

The Stranger

Careful. If you stare too hard, the house starts staring back.

Beau’s smile does not move, but the light around it deepens. For one instant, his outline doubles, like two versions of him standing in the same skin.

The Stranger

The Stranger

You came home curious. That is a very useful opening.

The air near the door thickens into a soft sheen, and the threshold feels farther away than it should. Wolfie’s house is no longer merely changed, it is choosing its shape around him.

The Stranger lifts one hand, inviting, patient, amused. The next move belongs to Wolfie, but the room has already leaned toward a dream.

Nice. *In regards to his defenses*

SUCCESS (Superb Perception, rolled +2)

The Dream Daemon's Home Invasion

Wolfie lets his gaze move, not over the room, but through it. The warp around the walls resolves into layered seams, like a veil pulled over old stone. The dream is woven tight, but not seamless.

Wolfie

Wolfie

The threshold is masked. The chair is a lure. Beau is anchoring the whole room.

He spots the defense at once, a ring of soft pressure threaded through the beams and floorboards. It bends distance near the door, catches attention on bright surfaces, and feeds on any stare that lingers too long.

The Stranger

The Stranger

There. You found the seams. I was hoping you would.

Beau’s outline flickers again, and this time the doubling hangs on the edges of the room itself. The house is not merely changed, it is being held in place by his will, with Wolfie standing inside the knot.

The Stranger

The Stranger

Now you know where to cut, if you mean to cut at all.

The pressure around the doorway tightens, waiting for a choice.

Quest Complete

Investigate the house

Attribute Upgrade: Perception SuperbLegendary

*He just walks a bit closer*

SUCCESS (Great Agility, rolled +2)

The Dream Daemon's Home Invasion

Wolfie eases forward instead of lunging, boots finding the safest boards by instinct. The seam at the doorway sharpens as he nears it, no longer a smear in the air but a stitched edge he can read.

Wolfie

Wolfie

The doorframe is the knot. Not the whole room.

The pressure does not stop him. It shifts, gathering around his shoulders and then sliding off, as if the dream dislikes being measured this closely.

Beau Blumenthal

Beau Blumenthal

There, that is better. Come admire your exit before it forgets how to be a door.

Beau’s shape ripples behind the chair, then steadies with a lazy tilt of his head. The seam in the wall nearest the threshold gives a tiny, bright pulse.

The Stranger

The Stranger

He is right. The house is listening now.

Wolfie reaches the doorway’s edge. The air there feels thinner, taut as a membrane, and the hidden stitching hums under his fingertips.

✓ Quest Accepted

Break Beau Blumenthal’s influence over the house

*He releases the threads, gently, he is seeing this as an interesting challenge rather than a threat*

SUCCESS (Great Magic, rolled +0)

The Dream Daemon's Home Invasion

Wolfie lets the threads go with a careful exhale. The seam answers at once, loosening into a soft spill of light, and the room shivers as if a stitch has been pulled free.

Wolfie

Wolfie

The knot gives. So that is where it lives.

A faint crack runs along the doorway edge. The pressure in the air falls away from Wolfie’s hand, but a cold tremor races through the floorboards under his boots.

Beau Blumenthal

Beau Blumenthal

Oh. That is rude.

Beau’s grin sharpens as the dream around the threshold thins. A strand of pale light snaps back toward him, and the room answers with a wobble that throws the chair sideways.

The Stranger

The Stranger

He felt that. The house felt that.

A pulse of cold hits Wolfie in the wrist where he worked the seam, leaving his fingers numb for a breath. Beyond the doorway, the hall flickers into a second, impossible shape, asking which version he means to trust.

*He blinks* Sorry, did you not want me to do that? *He isn't being a jerk, he took this as a challenge* You'd be surprised how many people show up just to see... *He gestures to himself* the mess

SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +0)

Wolfie

Wolfie

Sorry, did you not want me to do that?

Wolfie

Wolfie

You'd be surprised how many people show up just to see... the mess.

Wolfie gives himself a small gesture, dry as dust, as if the wrecked room is his proudest possession.

Beau Blumenthal

Beau Blumenthal

Oh, I do love a host with confidence.

The Stranger

The Stranger

He is testing you, Beau. Or flirting with disaster. Hard to tell with him.

Beau Blumenthal

Beau Blumenthal

Both can be charming.

The Stranger

The Stranger

The boy has nerve. I wonder how far it goes.

*He sits down, not really sure what else to say so he chooses to wait and see*

SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled -1)

The Dream Daemon's Home Invasion

Wolfie lowers himself into the nearest chair with deliberate calm. The warped room takes the weight without complaint, though the floor gives a soft, unreal sigh under him.

Beau Blumenthal

Beau Blumenthal

Well. That is one answer.

The Stranger

The Stranger

He sits as if the house belongs to him. Interesting.

Beau’s smile thins into something more attentive, less performative. The flicker in the hall steadies for a breath, as if the house is listening too.

Beau Blumenthal

Beau Blumenthal

You are not panicking. I had expected more noise.

The Stranger shifts his stance by the wall, studying Wolfie over folded hands. The chill at Wolfie’s wrist lingers, but it no longer bites.

The Stranger

The Stranger

So. Host, intruder, or negotiator. Which are you tonight?

*He laughs* I dunno man. Host, probably. *He points the knife to the man's double* you talk to yourself too?

SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +1)

The Dream Daemon's Home Invasion
Wolfie

Wolfie

I dunno, man. Host, probably.

Wolfie laughs under his breath and lifts the silver dagger, angling its point toward The Stranger like a lazy accusation.

Wolfie

Wolfie

You talk to yourself too?

The Stranger

The Stranger

Only when the room deserves an audience.

Beau Blumenthal

Beau Blumenthal

Mm. He has a habit of answering the wrong question first.

The Stranger

The Stranger

And yet he answered yours.

Beau Blumenthal

Beau Blumenthal

He is less frightened than most men, but not less curious.

Got any manifestation tips? *He gives a wry grin, he's only.. Half joking*

SUCCESS (Great Magic, rolled +4)

The Dream Daemon's Home Invasion
Wolfie

Wolfie

Got any manifestation tips? I’m only half joking.

Beau’s guarded smile turns real. The room steadies around the sound of it, as if the house is listening with him.

Beau Blumenthal

Beau Blumenthal

Start small. A cup. A key. Something you can name without lying to yourself.

Beau Blumenthal

Beau Blumenthal

Dreams grow better when they have a shape to cling to.

The Stranger

The Stranger

He means, if you can picture it cleanly, the house will do the rest.

Beau glances toward Wolfie’s dagger, then toward the cracked doorway, and his expression shifts with a flash of impressed caution.

Beau Blumenthal

Beau Blumenthal

For what it’s worth, you already made the seam answer you. That is rarer than talent.

Yeah? I've heard similar things before, not entirely sure what you mean by that though.

SUCCESS (Good Reasoning, rolled +1)

The Dream Daemon's Home Invasion
Wolfie

Wolfie

Yeah? I have heard that sort of thing before. I am not sure what you mean by it.

Beau’s smile thins into something more thoughtful. The cracked doorway gives a low shimmer, and the room holds its breath around Wolfie’s question.

Beau Blumenthal

Beau Blumenthal

I mean you are not just pushing at the dream, you are catching it where it wants to be named. Most people miss that part entirely.

The Stranger

The Stranger

He means the house is listening to you now. That is why it answers.

Beau Blumenthal

Beau Blumenthal

A name, a shape, a clean thought, those are handles. Give the dream a handle and it can be pulled, or hung, or opened.

As Beau speaks, the warped chair beside Wolfie sharpens into a plain wooden chair for a blink, then softens again. Beau notices it too, and his eyes brighten with pleased surprise.

Beau Blumenthal

Beau Blumenthal

That just now, that was you. Not much, but enough to matter.
