Morning settles over Class 2B in pale window light. Sakura reaches her desk with the sketchbook secured inside her bag, her bandaged heel tender beneath her shoe.
A neatly folded note rests on the desktop, weighted beneath Sakura’s pencil case. Across the room, Sana Matsumura waits beside the windows, while Sana’s friend remains nearby with the performance folder.

Sana Matsumura
I’m not coming over. Read it whenever you’re ready.
The note’s handwriting is hurried but legible: The committee won’t approach you publicly today. If follow-up is needed, Craft Clubroom, after classes, 4:10. Only us, unless you want otherwise.

Sana's friend
The committee knows not to ask you in the corridor. I told them the repair details can wait.

Sana Matsumura
Don’t crowd her. Just let her have the choice this time.
Sana keeps her promise, turning toward the window instead of watching Sakura read. The first bell has not rung, leaving the note, the room, and the unopened choice in place.
“"She's actually really considerate? Maybe I misjudged her." Sakura thinks to herself. "I can do this, baby steps!" Sakura commits to meeting in the craft clubroom after classes”

Sakura Yamamoto
She’s actually really considerate? Maybe I misjudged her. I can do this, baby steps!
Sakura folds Sana’s note and slips it into her bag. She keeps her attention on the lesson, letting the school day pass without joining the conversations around her.
At 4:10, Sakura reaches the Craft Clubroom with her sketchbook secured inside her bag. The familiar room smells of fabric, paper, and faint wood glue.

Sana Matsumura
You came. Thank you. We’ll keep this short, and nobody else is coming in.

Sana's friend
The repaired costume held through rehearsal. The committee only wanted to thank you and ask what follow-up would be comfortable.
Sana’s friend places the performance folder on the table, then steps back. Sana takes the chair across from Sakura, leaving the nearer seat and the worktable unobstructed.

Sana Matsumura
You can say no to more repairs. If you want, we can just talk about the one you already finished, or not talk about it at all.

“"Thank you, Matsumura." For once, while her audience is small, Sakura is able to speak clearly. "I like being relied on, I don't mind helping. I just got a little overwhelmed last time, that's all." Sakura tries her best to explain herself, finding herself surprisingly flustered in Sana's presence”
SUCCESS (Superb Willpower, rolled +2)

Sakura Yamamoto
Thank you, Matsumura. I like being relied on, and I don’t mind helping. I just got a little overwhelmed last time, that’s all.
The explanation comes out clearly, though Sakura’s hands tighten around the edge of her sketchbook. Her face warms, and she lowers her eyes only after finishing.

Sana Matsumura
Okay. I understand. You like helping, but not when everyone suddenly surrounds you and expects an answer.

Sana's friend
Then we can handle requests quietly, one at a time. No public announcements, and no assuming you’ve agreed.
Sana’s expression softens. She reaches for the performance folder, then pauses with her hand above it, remembering to leave the decision with Sakura.

Sana Matsumura
That makes sense. Today can just be about thanking you. You don’t have to decide anything else right now.
The room settles into its familiar quiet. Fabric rests undisturbed on the shelves, and the folder remains closed between them, no longer demanding an answer.
“Sakura sits quietly, awaiting for them to leave the room. As she watches Sana leave, something about her catches Sakura's attention. Trying to get just Sana by herself, Sakura calls out at the last second, her stammer returning in full force”
SUCCESS (Superb Willpower, rolled -2)

Sakura remains seated while Sana and her friend gather the folder. The quiet stretches, and Sakura watches Sana pause at the doorway, one hand resting on its frame.
Something in Sana’s hesitation catches Sakura’s attention. Her friend steps into the hall first, leaving the door open while Sana turns to follow.

Sakura Yamamoto
M-Matsumura... w-wait.
The call comes out louder than intended, breaking the clubroom’s quiet. Sakura’s voice catches on the second syllable, and her fingers clamp around the sketchbook’s edge.

Sana Matsumura
Yeah? What is it?

Sana's friend
I’ll wait outside. Take your time.
Sana’s friend pulls the door nearly closed from the hall. Sana stays inside, alone with Sakura, her expression attentive and slightly wary after hearing the strained call.
“"Thank you again. And, I'm sorry, I misjudged you before. I think you're actually really great, and kind..." Sakura then mutters under her breath "and pretty."”
SUCCESS (Superb Empathy, rolled -1)

Sakura Yamamoto
Thank you again. And I’m sorry. I misjudged you before. I think you’re actually really great, and kind...

Sakura Yamamoto
...and pretty.
The last word barely leaves Sakura’s mouth. Sana goes still in the doorway, her hand slipping from the frame as the clubroom’s quiet gathers around them.

Sana Matsumura
Oh. Wow. Okay. I wasn’t expecting that.
Sana’s guarded expression breaks into startled warmth. She looks aside, blonde hair falling across one cheek, then rubs the back of her neck.

Sana Matsumura
Thank you, Yamamoto. Really. And you don’t have to apologize for misjudging me. I gave you plenty of reasons to.

Sana Matsumura
But... I’m glad you told me. I’ll try to be someone you can actually trust.
“testing that trust, Sakura invites Sana to peruse the sketchbook a little”
SUCCESS (Superb Willpower, rolled +0)
Sakura draws the sketchbook from her bag and rests it on the table between them. Her thumb holds the cover closed for a moment, then eases it open to the first design page.

Sakura Yamamoto
You can look a little... if you want. Just the costume designs. Please be careful.

Sana Matsumura
Seriously? Okay. I’ll be careful, and I’ll stop whenever you say.
Sana approaches without reaching across Sakura. She waits until Sakura nudges the sketchbook toward her, then bends over the page, keeping her hands beside the binding.

Sana Matsumura
This is incredible. The notes, the fabric layers, even the way you planned the movement. You made all of this yourself?

Sakura Yamamoto
She is looking at the page, not grabbing it.

Sana Matsumura
I won’t turn the pages unless you tell me to. But if you want, I’d really like to see the next one.
“"Its okay, you can look more if you want. To be honest, I don't really have anyone else I can talk to about this. I don't really have a lot of friends. Or any at all"”
SUCCESS (Superb Willpower, rolled +0)

Sakura Yamamoto
It’s okay. You can look more if you want. To be honest, I don’t really have anyone else I can talk to about this. I don’t really have a lot of friends. Or any at all.
The admission settles over the clubroom. Sakura keeps the sketchbook open between them, her fingers resting near the page edge while Sana absorbs the words.

Sana Matsumura
Oh. Yamamoto... I didn’t know. Thank you for telling me. And yeah, I’ll look more, but I’m not going to treat your work like some classroom display.
Sana lowers her gaze to the design and turns the page only after Sakura has left the sketchbook open. Her hands remain clear of the drawings, careful around every pencil note.

Sana Matsumura
You can stop me whenever you want. But these are seriously good. The way you solve the sleeves and movement is something most people wouldn’t even notice.

Sana's friend
I’m still outside, but I heard enough to say this: you don’t have to be popular for your work to matter, Yamamoto.

Sana Matsumura
She trusted me with the sketchbook and told me the truth. Don’t ruin that by making this about yourself.
“"Matsumura, I won't mind if youre the one asking me. But only you" Sakura was struggling to articulate her true feelings, so it comes out all clumsy and vague”
SUCCESS (Superb Empathy, rolled -1)

Sakura Yamamoto
Matsumura... I won’t mind if you’re the one asking me. Just you. I mean, not... not other people.
The words come out unevenly, but the boundary is clear. Sakura keeps one hand on the sketchbook, leaving the open page between them.

Sana Matsumura
Okay. Just me. I can do that. I’ll ask privately, and I won’t pass your answer around like it’s already decided.

Sana Matsumura
She’s trusting me with this. Don’t turn it into pressure, and don’t make her regret saying it.

Sana's friend
That works for me too. I’ll tell the committee all requests go through Sana, and nobody approaches you directly.
Outside the nearly closed door, the friend’s voice stays low and practical. Inside, Sana nods once, keeping her attention on Sakura rather than the drawings.

Sana Matsumura
Then it’s settled. You can still say no to me, obviously. But if you’re okay with me asking, I’ll be the only one who does.
Director's note
Club activities are ending for the day, so Sakura begins packing to leave. She is hoping that some of her newfound feelings are reaching Sana, but she is unsure
The clubroom clock nears closing time. Sakura carefully slides the sketchbook into her bag, gathers her pencils, and folds the loose fabric samples back into their box.

Sana Matsumura
We should head out before the caretaker locks up. I can carry the folder, if you want.
Sana Matsumura closes the performance folder and keeps it tucked against her side. She leaves Sakura’s bag and sketchbook untouched, watching for permission before moving nearer.

Sana Matsumura
And, uh, you did good today. Not just with the designs. You told me what works for you.
The compliment hangs in the familiar room. Sana Matsumura’s voice loses its usual bright edge, and she glances toward the door before looking back at Sakura.

Sana Matsumura
I won’t make you stay. We can just walk to the gate together, or I can go ahead. Your choice.
Sana Matsumura steps aside, clearing the path. The clubroom settles behind them as evening light stretches across the hallway, leaving Sakura room to pack the last item and leave when ready.
