Morning light slips through the tavern shutters. Blezzy remains in the upper room with the barmaid; her repaired pack and coin rest nearby, while the shopkeeper has already returned to her store.

Lyra

Lyra

Stay with me, Blezzy. Work behind my counter, marry me, and spend every night here instead of crawling back into those shafts.

Blezzy

Blezzy

I know nothing other than mining. I turn you down, but I promise to return after I find more ore to sell for coin.

Lyra

Then I accept your choice. I would rather have you return freely than keep you by a promise you cannot make.

The barmaid dresses and descends briefly to tend the tavern, leaving Blezzy's belongings undisturbed. When she returns, she closes the door and lowers her voice.

Lyra

For such an enjoyable night, take one private tip. Beneath the slums lies an abandoned lower cut where pale-gold veins were sealed after a green-lit watcher appeared.

Lyra

Lyra

That route may lead straight toward the intelligent dragon's claimed ore. It could make you rich, darling, or put you in the path of something that wants those veins kept hidden.

✓ Quest Accepted

Bring ore to the barmaid

“I embrace the barmaid - if I remember correctly, her name is Lyra - and give her a long kiss on the mouth. Her flavor lingers on my mouth as my flavor lingers on hers. "You tasted amazing, as you always do." I compliment Lyra. "I'll bring you back an ore when I come back next. I'll give you the most expensive one as a token of my love for you." I promise Lyra. I give her one more, long, slow kiss on her lips, enjoying our flavors mixing, before I pick up my bag, pickaxe, and bottle, and put my clothing scraps back on, then leave the room and head downstairs to leave out the back door of the Tavern so that nobody sees that Lyra and me slept together the night prior.”

SUCCESS (Legendary Mercantile, rolled +4)

The Barmaid's Private Tip

Blezzy embraces Lyra and gives her a long kiss. The barmaid answers it warmly, and when they part, their shared flavor lingers between them.

You tasted amazing, as you always do. I will bring you an ore when I return, the most expensive one as a token of my love.

Then I will keep a place for you, darling. Bring back the ore, and come back safely with it.

Blezzy gives Lyra one more long, slow kiss, then gathers her repaired pack, pickaxe, and bottle. She pulls her clothing scraps back into place before opening the room.

Take this key. The back door sticks unless you lift it first, and the alley beyond reaches the old drainage path unseen.

Lyra places a small iron key in Blezzy's hand. Blezzy descends the quiet stairs, crosses behind the empty bar, and lifts the back door as instructed.

She slips into the slum alley with her belongings secured and no watching eyes upon her. Behind her, Lyra lowers the door and returns to the tavern.

Small Iron Key

“I head towards the old drainage path as I was instructed to do by Lyra, the memories of how amazing she tasted last night still fresh on my mind, making me a little wet despite the slight chill of the morning air. Once at the drainage path, I descend into it, feeling my way with my hands since the path has no light sources for me to see by. Impressed with myself at having not had a single sip of my whiskey since before even entering the Tavern last night, I head in the direction of the Mine-shafts, searching for the location that Lyra told me about this morning, when, *crunch!* I move a little too fast and kick something in my path. It's hard, but not stone-hard.”

FAILURE (Good Perception, rolled +0)

The Barmaid's Private Tip

Blezzy follows Lyra’s directions into the old drainage path. Morning chill clings to the damp stone, and darkness replaces the slum’s gray light as she descends.

Blezzy

Blezzy

The bottle is still full. My hands can find the walls, even without sight.

She advances by touch, one palm sliding along the curved masonry while the other steadies her pickaxe. Water trickles beneath her boots, guiding the passage toward the mine-shafts.

Then her boot strikes something with a sharp crunch. It yields slightly, unlike stone, and skids into the darkness. Her forward momentum stops at a low blockage.

Feeling ahead, Blezzy finds a collapsed section packed with rotting boards and mud. The drainage route toward the mine-shafts is sealed, too unstable to force without bringing the passage down.

Her kick has split one board loose. Behind it, cold air moves through a narrow side opening, carrying the faint metallic scent of exposed ore.

The main path fails her, but the broken board reveals a crawlway angling downward toward the buried workings, its darkness threaded with a distant, pale-gold glimmer.

Open a way through the drainage blockage

“I take a heavy swig from my whiskey bottle, knowing that I need to refresh my intoxication to keep my arms steady for what I'm about to try. I twist my pickaxe around away from the sharp point and begin carefully tapping the wood of the crawlspace in an attempt to remove just enough of it for me to squeeze past.”

SUCCESS (Legendary Mining, rolled +1)

The Barmaid's Private Tip

Blezzy draws the whiskey bottle from its strap and takes a heavy swig. The burn settles through her limbs, sharpening her familiar, unsteady strength.

She stows the bottle beneath her bellybutton and reverses the pickaxe, keeping its blunt end toward the rotting boards. Her first taps are measured and soft.

Wood fibers loosen without a collapse. Blezzy follows each crack, striking only the supports blocking the narrowest section while mud trickles harmlessly around her boots.

A final careful blow splits the last crosspiece. She pulls the broken boards free and clears enough space for her slim frame to pass.

Blezzy turns her shoulders, protects the pickaxe against the stone, and squeezes through the opened crawlway. Cold air slips over her scarred shins.

On the far side, the passage descends toward buried workings. Pale-gold light gleams ahead across wet masonry, and the metallic scent of ore grows stronger.

“I follow the shaft forward, wondering if it'll lead me to the "lower cut" that I was recommended to head towards. Whether the pathway has any inclines or declines, I am unable to tell, scrunched up in this tiny passage as I am. I keep my eyes peeled for precious ore glimmers as I slowly work my way forward.”

SUCCESS (Legendary Mining, rolled +0)

The Barmaid's Private Tip

Blezzy crawls onward with one shoulder brushing the wet masonry. The passage rises, dips, and twists beneath her, but her cramped posture makes each change impossible to judge.

Blezzy

Blezzy

The pale-gold glimmer is stronger ahead.

She pauses whenever the stone catches lanternless light, inspecting the walls by touch and sight. Tiny gold-flecked chips shine in seams too narrow for her pickaxe.

Blezzy continues slowly, gathering no ore yet, while the crawlway slopes downward and the air grows colder. Old tool marks appear beneath the damp masonry.

The passage opens at last into a low abandoned cut. Pale-gold veins thread the walls, sealed around a broader chamber where green lanternlight stains the darkness.

A weathered timber bears a faded miner's mark beside the opening. Beyond it, the lower cut extends beneath the slums, and fresh bootprints cross its dusty floor.

“I search the walls for Adamantite ore, and attempt to find the even more rare ore: Orichalcum. I would *love* to bring a piece of orichalcum to Lyra. She'd be able to buy herself into nobility with a small chunk of that. As I search, I keep my senses alert for whoever it was that recently passed by, intending on catching a glimpse of them if they pass by again. I make it a point to NOT drink anything from my bottle while trying to listen and look around, as I know that it makes my senses duller, even if it helps to steady my limbs when I'm actually actively mining.”

FAILURE (Legendary Mining, rolled -4)

The Barmaid's Private Tip

Blezzy moves along the lower-cut walls without drinking, fingers and eyes tracing every seam. Pale-gold ore appears in scattered flecks, but no blue-white adamantite or deeper orange gleam answers her search.

Blezzy

Blezzy

The fresh bootprints are narrower than mine, and they turn toward the green light.

She crouches beside the prints, listening between slow breaths. Nothing passes again. The green lanternlight remains steady beyond the sealed chamber, while damp stone carries only distant dripping.

Blezzy presses her palm to a wall seam beside the tracks, testing it for hidden ore. The masonry shifts under her touch, and a thin shelf breaks away with a brittle clatter.

Dust spills across the footprints, blurring their direction. Behind the fallen shelf, the wall reveals old chisel marks and a narrow iron-bound door, its edges sealed with pale-gold mineral growth.

The exposed door leaves the open cut no longer useful for following the passerby. Its mineral crust may conceal valuable ore, but forcing it would destroy the only clear evidence of where the stranger went.

“In my lust for expensive ores, I decide the ignore to other person, since they have evidently moved on. I decide, instead, to open the door, my miner's senses telling me there are valuable ores beyond the door. My lust for expensive ores, and my promise to Lyra makes me throw caution to the wind as I decide to mine the sealing crystals on the door so that I can open it and lay claim to whatever ores are inside, despite the warning that there were magical wards that would alert whatever creature has taken control of this shaft to the fact that it was breached.”

SUCCESS (Legendary Mining, rolled +0)

The Barmaid's Private Tip

Blezzy leaves the blurred bootprints behind and sets her pickaxe against the pale-gold crystals sealing the iron-bound door. Her miner’s senses promise richer ore beyond.

She strikes carefully at first, shaving crystal from the hinges and lock. Each fragment rings like frozen metal, revealing the door’s ancient iron beneath.

The mineral seal resists, but Blezzy’s legendary strength breaks its clustered growths one after another. Pale sparks crawl across the iron as hidden ward-lines awaken.

A green radiance floods the lower cut. Somewhere beyond the sealed chamber, a deep presence stirs, and the warning ward sends its notice through stone.

Blezzy drives the pickaxe beneath the final crystal band and wrenches it free. The iron-bound door swings inward with a long, grinding groan.

Beyond lies a buried storehouse veined with pale gold, blue-white metal, and a dense orange gleam deeper within. Dust rolls across stacked ancient workings.

The open doorway stands behind Blezzy, its broken crystals glittering at her feet, while green light pulses from the chamber and something powerful begins approaching through the mine.
