Parker and the Hedge Wizard cross the cemetery lane toward the iron gates. The storm thins here, but the wind still combs the yews and rattles the blackened chains. Beyond the wall, lanterns glow in a narrow keeper’s lodge.
The Hedge Wizard lowers his staff and draws a shuddering breath. His pale eyes flick from the ward behind them to the lodge ahead, as if measuring the distance by memory.

Oryn
Get inside the lodge. Stone and salt, that is all we need now.
The ghosts linger at the far edge of the grounds, blurred shapes behind the sealing glow. They do not cross, but their hollow stare follows every step.

Oryn
If they found a weakness once, they may find one again. Help me bar the door.
The lodge door stands half-open, warm lamplight spilling onto wet cobbles. Inside, a small altar, a bowl of salt, and a coiled length of iron chain wait in the dim.

Discover who sabotaged the ward
“Grab the iron chain and help the wizard secure the lodge door.”
SUCCESS (Good Strength, rolled +1)

Parker takes the chain from the wet threshold and feeds it through the door rings while the wizard braces the slab with both hands. Iron scrapes stone, and the lamplight shivers across their arms.
Together they haul. The door gives a hard, final jolt, then settles flush in its frame.

Oryn
Now. Hold it while I set the bar.
Parker shifts the chain tight. The wizard slides the heavy bar into place, and the lodge door bows under the weight before locking fast.
For a breath, the small room beyond goes quieter, only rain ticking on the lintel and salt smelling sharp on the air.
Then Parker catches it, a pause in the mist outside, too still to be weather. Something lingers just beyond the lantern glow, watching the newly barred door.

Oryn
We are not alone out there.
