One week after the covenant, the International Press Center is gone behind barricades and floodlights. Jesse stands outside the newly established Los Angeles Emergency Operations Center, Bible closed and suppressed Colt secured beneath his jacket.

Inside the converted municipal building, an elderly man in a wrinkled navy suit directs evacuation maps while a young woman with cropped hair reads casualty reports. No companion remains with Jesse; Corsio left after his offer.

Screens show missile trails crossing night skies, emergency sirens beneath them, and intercepted footage of Carpathia’s forces defeating rebel positions before declaring a unified ceasefire.

The officials repeat his phrases while updating the routes: protection, food, order, submission. Outside, distant sirens multiply as Los Angeles waits beneath a darkening sky.

Jesse leaves the emergency center’s floodlit entrance and reaches a vacant office building across the avenue. Inside, dust veils the dark windows and distant sirens pulse through empty rooms.

A concealed case yields a suppressed sniper rifle. Jesse assembles it with practiced precision, settles behind the upper window, and sights the approach to the Emergency Operations Center.

Hours pass beneath a bruised sky. Emergency vehicles arrive, officials hurry through barricades, and Carpathia’s speech continues on public screens, promising protection through submission.

A black convoy rolls into view. Nicolae Carpathia steps from the center vehicle in his immaculate dark suit, briefly exposed beneath the building’s security lights.

Jesse fires once. The suppressed report disappears into the city’s sirens, and Carpathia falls from view as agents rush him behind the armored vehicles.

Jesse leaves the rifle behind, crosses the vacant office, and drops into the stairwell. He descends the fixed ladder rapidly as sirens converge around the emergency center.

His boot slips on the final rungs. He catches himself hard against the lower rail, bruising his palm, then pushes through a maintenance door into the service lane.

Beyond the warehouses, a nearby municipal runway lies under portable lights. Jesse reaches the perimeter gate, finds it unsecured, and runs toward a parked Cessna with its cabin unlocked.

The aircraft engine coughs awake, loud enough to turn faces at the distant road. Jesse climbs aboard, secures the door, and brings the instruments to life.

The Cessna rolls along the runway as emergency vehicles sweep the surrounding streets. Its tires lift from the pavement, carrying Jesse above Los Angeles and the spreading crisis.

Jesse: The runway is beneath me, and the city is falling away.

Below, sirens thread through dark avenues while public screens continue Carpathia’s promises of order. The Cessna banks into open sky, airborne and clear of the immediate pursuit.

The Cessna cruises above the cloud layer, its cabin vibrating softly. Jesse props a phone against the instrument panel and scans breaking-news broadcasts beneath the aircraft’s dim red lights.

Every network carries the same emergency statement: Nicolae Carpathia is alive, under medical protection, and recovering from an attempted assassination. His government blames an unidentified extremist gunman.

The broadcast then jumps forward through weeks of negotiations. The war ends, Carpathia’s authority expands, and reports announce the rebuilt Temple in Jerusalem, where sacrifices have begun again.

The phone’s battery drops sharply while Jesse watches the coverage. Its warning flashes at twelve percent, leaving him the truth but little power for further viewing.
