You carry Wild Flower Dave and Wild Flower Violet along the highway at sunset, your white fairings flashing beneath the fading light. Dave keeps Violet close as she rides you, but her grip loosens whenever the road opens ahead.
Violet lifts one hand and points toward the broad shoulder ahead. Dave follows her gesture, then eases his weight as though preparing to bring the ride to a careful stop.
Wild Flower Violet
Pull over, Dave. I need an answer before we go any farther.
The motorcycle slows onto the shoulder, tires whispering over grit. Violet keeps her hand braced against Dave while the last gold light catches in the mirrors and fades.
Wild Flower Dave
An answer about what, Violet? You said you wanted the road, and I brought you here.
Wild Flower Violet
He keeps helping me feel alive, but he still will not say where I fit in his life.
Wild Flower Violet
Whether this is only a ride you give me, or whether you actually want me beside you when the road ends.

Violet, you belong beside me beyond this ride. I want you with me when the road ends, and wherever it leads after that.
For a moment, only the ticking engine answers. Violet’s hand tightens against Dave, and her face turns toward him as the final sunlight slips from the highway.
Wild Flower Violet
You mean that? Not just tonight, not just because I needed this?
Wild Flower Dave
I mean it. You are not something I carry until the road gets difficult. You are the person I want beside me.
Violet bows her head against Dave’s shoulder, then laughs once, softly and unsteadily. Her arms settle around him with renewed certainty.
Wild Flower Violet
Then do not leave me guessing anymore. Take me with you, Dave.
Dave rests his hands over hers. Ahead, the highway darkens into blue, open and waiting, while your engine idles beneath them.
