Qaulitex reaches the ashlands beneath a bruised violet sky. The dragon’s fallen bulk smolders among blackened stones, while the ruin of an interrupted ritual gapes beyond it.
An elderly elf woman bursts from a ring of scorched runes, tall and gaunt beneath torn crimson robes. Silver hair streams around a severe, ash-streaked face.
The Renegade Archmage
You. Take this, unless you want the crown to survive.
The renegade archmage thrusts a dark crystal focus toward Qaulitex. Its inner light stutters, casting broken shadows across the ritual circle.
The Renegade Archmage
The working was made to dethrone a usurper. The final passage is missing, and my hunters have chained themselves to the gap.
Footfalls answer from nowhere, circling through the ash without revealing any pursuers. The runes flare once, then begin collapsing inward toward the focus.
The Renegade Archmage
Choose quickly. Hold it, complete it, or let the spell consume us both.

“*I go ahead and use my magic to try and complete the crystal*"and what is this supposed to do?"”
SUCCESS (Legendary Magic, rolled +1)
Qaulitex takes the dark crystal focus from the renegade archmage. Its stuttering light settles against their shifting form as they pour precise magic through its fractured core.
Qaulitex
And what is this supposed to do?
The collapsing runes answer at once. Ash lifts in a silent spiral, and the missing passage seals through the crystal as though time itself is being threaded into glass.
The Renegade Archmage
It strips the usurper’s crown from the one who wears it, wherever that tyrant hides. The stolen authority returns to its rightful bearer.
A deep bell sounds beneath the earth. Far beyond the ashlands, an unseen power breaks, and the crystal fills with a steady black radiance.
The Renegade Archmage
Now the spell is complete. The crown can no longer command the realm, but its power must choose a new vessel.

“I see well we still have to deal with your pursuers so how does the power choose a new vessel?”

Qaulitex
I see. We still have to deal with your pursuers. How does the power choose a new vessel?
The circling footfalls resolve into six ash-cloaked hunters, adult elves in iron masks, emerging around the ruined circle with hooked staffs raised.
The Renegade Archmage
It chooses the one who can bear its contradiction: rightful claim and stolen crown, destruction and dominion, held without surrender.
The black radiance bends toward Qaulitex. Their shifting outline refracts through it, and the crystal’s steady pulse settles into their hands like a second rhythm.
The Renegade Archmage
It has chosen you. Not by blood, nor prophecy alone, but because you stood inside the unfinished spell and completed what I could not.
The masked hunters lunge together. A silent fold passes through the ash, and each staff drops harmlessly as its wielder is cast beyond the scorched ring, stranded far from the ritual.
The Renegade Archmage
Your pursuers are dealt with. Now decide whether this power becomes a shield, a throne, or the blade that cuts both away.
