The Crown’s Two Demands

The two halves of the Demon King’s crown rise from the stone without a hand touching them. They hover above the cracked floor, turning slowly in the red light.

Give blood to the deep. Give name, breath, and crown, until the buried hunger sleeps.

A drop from Reyna’s cut forearm falls beside the open stair. The red light below flares, and the carved serpent seems to tighten around its sunless world.

Stone grinds beneath the throne. Ancient carvings shift across the walls, revealing kneeling kings beneath the serpent’s coils, their crowns offered downward rather than worn.

Fox-tailed tempest! The hall is quiet again. If you have found another tyrant, call me down before you finish it.

The warrior’s voice reaches faintly from beyond the sealed doors, where she remains among the outer dead. Below, something vast draws a slow breath, and the stair brightens.

Reyna sets the scythe’s edge against the carved floor and drives down with all her strength. Stone bursts beneath the blow, and the cut races along the stair’s center.

Her legendary force splits the ancient slabs cleanly in two, widening the descent into an easy, unobstructed path. Red light pours upward through the fresh cleft.

The barely controlled strike rebounds through her arms. The scythe tears a deeper line across her injured forearm, and blood patters into the opening below.

Yes. Open the buried road. Let every seal learn the strength of your hand.

The deep has tasted you now. It knows your blood, and soon it will know your name.

That noise was no falling stone! Fox-tailed tempest, have you found the way below?

The split floor settles with a thunderous groan. Beyond it, the red-lit stair lies fully open, while something beneath the castle breathes once against the widening dark.

“I use my willpower and engage in a battle of wills to break the crown’s hold on me”

SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +1)

Reyna plants her boots at the split stair and fixes her will against the two hovering crown halves. Their red light presses inward like a second heartbeat.

Kneel, bearer. Power belongs to the hand strong enough to seize it.

Name yourself to the deep. Let your breath become its inheritance.

Reyna Corvus

The voices are outside me. The crown has no claim.

Reyna’s iron will closes around the intrusive voices. The red radiance buckles, and the crown halves spin violently apart above the broken stone.

The last pressure snaps. Both halves crash onto opposite sides of the stair, their whispers reduced to faint metal murmurs. The buried breath below continues, but it no longer reaches through her.

There! That silence sounds like victory, fox-tailed tempest. Shall I come down, or have you claimed the depths alone?

“I go beneath the palace to find the darkness”

SUCCESS (Fair Perception, rolled -1)

The Crown’s Two Demands

Reyna descends through the split stair, boots striking ancient stone. Red light gutters behind her, and the crown halves remain abandoned above, their whispers fading into the palace.

The passage drops beneath the foundations into a vast buried chamber. Her blood, squeezed from the reopened cut on her forearm, marks each step behind her.

Reyna Corvus

The darkness is breathing.

At the stair’s foot, blackness fills the chamber beyond the reach of the red glow. It is not absence of light, but a vast presence gathered around a sunless pit.

the wandering warrior

Fox-tailed tempest! I hear the deep groaning below you. If it has teeth, let it show them!

The wound on Reyna’s forearm opens further as the descent’s strain pulls at it. Blood patters onto the threshold, and the darkness turns toward her without moving.

She has reached the buried darkness beneath the palace. Within it, enormous shapes shift around a stone altar crowned with old, empty handprints.

✓ Quest Accepted

Force the buried hunger to reveal itself

“I lift the entire palace and throw it against a nearby mountain, destroying it”

FAILURE (Legendary Strength, rolled -1)

The Crown’s Two Demands

Reyna plants her boots beneath the buried chamber and reaches through stone with overwhelming force. Above, the entire palace groans, foundations wrenching free as dust pours from the ceiling.

The fortress rises. Towers tear loose from the mountain-rooted earth, black banners whipping through the red-lit air as the palace hangs for one impossible heartbeat.

the wandering warrior

the wandering warrior

By every scarred god, fox-tailed tempest! You are lifting the whole cursed castle!

Reyna heaves toward the distant mountain, but the palace twists apart instead of flying. Its upper halls collapse inward, while unseen foundations remain locked around the buried chamber.

The strain rebounds through the stone. The chamber floor fractures beneath Reyna, opening a ring around the altar as the palace settles ruined above her.

Beneath the altar, the break reveals a sloping passage of pale stone descending beyond the serpent carvings. Old handprints line its threshold, each carved with a different royal seal.

the wandering warrior

The palace still stands, fox-tailed tempest, but its heart is open now. Whatever holds it down lies beneath you.

“I wonder if the injury is hindering my strength and ask the warrior if she knows anything about treating wounds”

SUCCESS (Mediocre Reasoning, rolled +0)

The Crown’s Two Demands
Reyna Corvus

Reyna Corvus

My wound is hindering my strength. Warrior, do you know how to treat it?

The question carries up through the fractured chamber. Blood slips steadily from Reyna’s forearm, darkening her hand as the buried passage exhales cold air.

the wandering warrior

the wandering warrior

I know enough to keep a fighter moving. Bind it tightly above the cut, then wrap the wound clean. Do not let the deep drink freely.

Above, stones grind and collapse around the wandering warrior’s distant position. Her voice remains clear, but the ruined palace separates her from Reyna by broken halls and falling masonry.

the wandering warrior

the wandering warrior

Tear cloth from your cloak or sash. Press it hard against the wound and hold it there. If the bleeding slows, your strength will return enough for battle.

The injury answers with a fresh pulse of pain, and blood runs between Reyna’s fingers. The advice is sound, but the delay has cost her blood and dulled her grip.

the wandering warrior

the wandering warrior

Bind it now, fox-tailed tempest. Then show me what waits beneath the altar.

“I follow the advice and treat the wound”

SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +0)

The Crown’s Two Demands

Reyna tears a strip from her sash and presses it firmly over the reopened cut. She winds the remaining cloth above it, binding the forearm tight.

The pressure checks the bleeding. Pain still throbs beneath the cloth, but her grip steadies, and the scythe no longer drags against her injured strength.

the wandering warrior

the wandering warrior

Good. Keep the binding tight and save the rest of your blood for whatever waits below.

Cold air flows from the pale passage beneath the altar, carrying the scent of ancient dust and something mineral, deep, and newly disturbed.

the wandering warrior

the wandering warrior

Can you stand ready, fox-tailed tempest? The palace is groaning around us, and I doubt its buried heart will remain patient.

The altar’s empty handprints glimmer faintly as Reyna’s bloodied cloth passes above them. Far below, a heavy shape shifts against stone.

the wandering warrior

the wandering warrior

Whatever lies under that altar, meet it with your strength restored. I will follow when these ruins permit it.
