Reyna arrives beneath a bruised red sky. The ancient dueling ground lies shattered, ringed by black banners and the still forms of warriors fallen only moments ago.

At the arena’s center stands a tall middle-aged woman in battered iron lamellar, her ash-gray braid whipping over one shoulder. A white scar cuts across her dark cheek.

Demon King! I have crossed your burned kingdoms for this. Come claim my life, or send the strongest thing wearing your crown!

Her challenge rolls across the stones and dies among the ruins. Then the dead begin to move, rising stiffly beneath torn cloaks and broken shields.

No. Not yet. I will not have carrion stand between me and the throne.

Black dust spills from the corpses’ mouths as they turn toward the living. Beyond the far gate, something massive strikes the sealed doors once, making every banner snap.

Reyna crosses the broken arena in a blur of pink hair and fox-tail motion. She plants both hands against the barred gates and drives forward.

Iron screams beneath her grip. The ancient doors burst apart, their chains snapping and their slabs tumbling outward across the threshold in clouds of black dust.

At last. You have made an entrance worthy of the throne.

Beyond the ruined gate waits a cavernous passage lit by red fire. A colossal horned silhouette fills its far end, draped in torn royal cloth.

The fallen warriors turn toward the opening, but the massive presence raises one clawed hand. Every corpse freezes where it stands.

Demon King! I am here. Show me whether your crown is earned or merely inherited.

And now the true battle begins.

Reyna gives the wandering warrior a single nod, then turns from the frozen dead and races beneath the shattered gate into the castle alone.

Her pink hair streams behind her as she crosses the cavernous passage. Red fire gutters in wall sconces, throwing horned shadows across cracked stone.

The castle is awake around me.

Run, then, fox-tailed tempest! I will make enough noise for two.

Behind Reyna, the wandering warrior surges into the arena, steel ringing against the first advancing corpses. Their clash fades as the castle swallows Reyna’s footfalls.

You enter my halls without escort, stranger. Boldness is a poor shield.

The passage opens into a vast throne hall, its banners hanging in tatters above a black stair. At its summit, the horned sovereign waits beneath a broken crown.

Reyna Corvus

Demon King, I challenge you to a duel to the death.

Reyna’s challenge cuts through the throne hall. Red fire gutters in its sconces, and the black banners shudder as though the castle itself has heard a verdict.

Demon King

Demon King

Accepted. Before these ruined stones and every listening spirit beneath them, your death shall be the price of entering my hall.

The Demon King descends the black stair. He is enormous, horned and broad-shouldered beneath torn royal cloth, with ember-bright eyes and a crown split down the middle.

Demon King

Demon King

No armies. No servants. No flight. One life against one life, until the throne receives its offering.

At his raised hand, iron doors slam shut behind Reyna and the hall’s shadows draw back from a wide circle of cracked stone. A dark blade forms in his grasp.

Demon King

Demon King

Come, fox-tailed challenger. Show me whether your courage is a weapon, or merely the sound it makes before breaking.

“I draw my scythe and go at him and overwhelm the demon king with superior strength and skill”

SUCCESS (Legendary Melee Weapons, rolled -1)

Reyna draws her scythe in one fluid motion. The curved blade catches the firelight as she crosses the cracked circle before the Demon King can finish raising his weapon.

She drives into him with overwhelming force, turning aside his dark blade and hammering through his guard with a succession of precise, brutal cuts.

Demon King

Demon King

Impossible. No mortal should possess strength enough to break my warding.

Reyna’s scythe hooks beneath his weapon and tears it from his grasp. Her next strike crashes across his armored side, forcing the towering sovereign down onto one knee.

The impact shudders through the throne hall and splits the stone beneath them. A jagged fragment slashes Reyna’s forearm, drawing a thin line of blood, but her grip never falters.

Demon King

Demon King

You have my measure, fox-tailed challenger. Then take the throne’s answer from me at close range.

Disarmed and beaten from his feet, the Demon King braces one claw against the floor while Reyna’s blade controls the space before his throat. The listening shadows recoil from her victory.

“I take his life”

Reyna’s scythe descends in a clean, final arc. The Demon King’s life leaves him beneath the broken crown, and his immense form settles against the cracked stone.

The dark blade in his fallen grasp dissolves into smoke. Across the throne hall, the black banners sag as the sorcery binding them begins to unravel.

A deep bell sounds somewhere below the castle, though no hand pulls its rope. The throne behind the corpse opens along a hidden seam, revealing stairs descending into red darkness.

The crown has fallen! Fox-tailed tempest, are you standing, or must I carve my way in to find you?

Far beyond the sealed doors, steel clashes once, then stops. Dust sifts from the ceiling as something vast shifts beneath the newly revealed stair.

The Demon King’s split crown rolls from the stone and comes to rest near Reyna’s boots. Its two halves whisper in voices that are not his.

Below, red light pulses through the stairwell, illuminating old carvings of a crowned serpent coiled around a sunless world.
