The Santa Varia cuts through calm blue water as the New World rises ahead, its distant shore softened by a veil of light fog. Gentle rainbows arch across the brightening sky.

Only minutes remain before the Grand Expeditionary Fleet reaches unfamiliar land. Polished hulls and colorful banners move in orderly formation behind the flagship.

There it is, clear as any promised kingdom! Signal the fleet to prepare for landfall.

A young adult woman with a sturdy build stands near the forward rail, her dark braid tucked beneath a crimson cap. A blue officer’s coat strains against the wind, and a brass spyglass hangs at her belt.

Keep the lines ready and the charts dry. We will meet this coast disciplined, not dazzled.

Across the decks, sailors check ropes, spars, and boats with renewed purpose. Laughter travels between stations, mingling with gull cries and the steady creak of timber.

Griffith stands among the armored command presence of Viron as expectation gathers around him, while the mist ahead slowly begins to reveal the unknown shore.

“Griffith: "Father's word... It truly is as beautiful as that glorious fool Pierre described it. And what better welcoming than this!" *He steps forward, gazing to the glorious land. He analyzes the terrain before pointing to a natural, wide-mouthed cove.* "There, that is where the Varia shall dock. The rest of the fleet stays here till it is confirmed safe.”

Father's word... It truly is as beautiful as that glorious fool Pierre described it. And what better welcoming than this!

Griffith steps toward the prow, silver armor catching the rainbows. Beyond the fog, green hills descend to a broad cove sheltered by two low headlands.

Griffith

Griffith

There. That is where the Varia shall dock. The rest of the fleet stays here till it is confirmed safe.

He studies the shoreline: no watchfires, palisades, or vessels break the wooded slopes. The cove's wide mouth offers calm water, a firm beach, and room for landing boats.

the deck officer

the deck officer

You heard him! Signal Santa Varia's helmsman for the cove. The fleet holds formation beyond the shoals.

Flags snap from the mast. Santa Varia turns obediently toward the sheltered inlet, while the remaining ships shorten sail and anchor in ordered ranks offshore.

the deck officer

the deck officer

The flagship is entering clean water, Commander. No movement ashore, and the fleet remains ready until your signal confirms the coast.

“*Griffith turns to his scouting team, in which he shall be leading. A total of twenty knight and squires of the Ashen Order.* "Alright, Men!" *He calls outs, stepping forward to face them.* "Today is the glorious day our nation has waited two centuries for. The colonization of a new land for the glory of Viron!" *His second in command, the female knight, Elara, stands beside him. Griffith continues.* "The second that anchor falls, The bridges hit that soil. And I, followed by all of you, shall be the first to set foot on this New World! *He raises his fist, followed by cheers.*”

Griffith

Alright, men! Today is the glorious day our nation has awaited for two centuries: the colonization of a new land for the glory of Viron!

Twenty knights and squires of the Ashen Order turn toward him, silver and blue beneath the wet sky. Elara, a tall young adult woman in weathered plate with a lean build and blue-trimmed pauldrons, stands at his side, her auburn hair braided beneath her helm and one old scar crossing her chin.

Griffith

Griffith

The second that anchor falls, the bridges hit that soil. I, followed by every one of you, shall be the first to set foot on this New World!

Griffith raises his fist. The command costs him a raw throat, but the twenty answer with a thunderous cheer that rolls across the flagship and carries over the water.

Elara

Elara

Ashen Order, remember your vows. We land together, keep formation, and make Viron's banner the first sight this shore receives.

Squires seize bridge ropes and check buckles while knights lower visors. Beyond them, the cove waits green and silent, its beach now close beneath Santa Varia's bow.

the deck officer

the deck officer

Commander, the anchor crew stands ready. At your word, the first boats can be lowered.

“"Lower the anchor! Drop the bridges! Alpha company, fall in behind me!" *He orders, patting Elara on the shoulder as he moves to the middle of the ship where the crew dropped the bridges to the sandy shore, connecting the ship to the earth. Descending one of the gangway bridges. Slowly, with a reverent step, he sinks his foot into the sand. Followed by his squad. Viron had officially made history.*”

Anchor chains roar through their guides, and the flagship settles against the tide. Sailors swing the broad gangways outward until their ends meet the pale sand.

Bridges secure! Alpha Company has a clear path, Commander!

Griffith pats Elara's shoulder and strides toward the middle deck. Behind him, Alpha Company closes ranks, armor bright beneath the rain and banners snapping overhead.

He descends the gangway with measured care, shield and mace steady, then places one armored foot into the damp sand. The New World receives him.

Elara

Elara

Ashen Order, follow! Keep the formation tight and plant Viron's colors beside him.

Alpha Company crosses after Griffith in disciplined file. Boots press a fresh trail into the shore as the first Vironese standard rises above the beach, marking the moment history begins.

“Is the silent shoreline hiding a threat?”

For several heartbeats, only surf answers the landing. Then reeds shiver along the cove's western edge, though no wind reaches them, and pale eyes glint beneath the wet grass.

A broad-shouldered adult beastfolk rises from the reeds, shaped like a tall marsh stag with dark hide, branching antlers, and a woven rush mantle over his chest. A stone-tipped spear rests in his hands.

the stag beastfolk

Back to the water, iron-walkers. This shore is guarded.

More shapes stir among the reeds and low trees: furred, scaled, and feathered figures keeping low behind cover. Their weapons remain lowered, but every gaze fixes upon the standard.

Elara

Elara

Shields forward. Hold formation, and give them no cause to loose.

Alpha Company closes ranks around Griffith. Shield rims meet with a hard clatter while the blue and yellow banner snaps above the beach, bright against the watching wildfolk.

Commander, movement on both headlands. We are surrounded, though they have not struck.

“"Alpha Company, Hold Formation!" *Griffith calls out, holding his shield before him.* "Mage to the front!" *He orders. Alpha Company has one mage, which can use magic to speak the language of unknown creatures.* "Tell these primitives that We are the Grand Army of Viron, and have come to claim these lands. We will do so peacefully, unless given reason to force submission!" *These Beastfolk seem to be like humanoid elk, and do not speak english.*”

Alpha Company, hold formation! Mage to the front! Tell them we are the Grand Army of Viron, here to claim these lands peacefully unless they force submission.

Griffith raises his shield before him as the company locks into place. A young adult man in a gray wool robe and blue mantle steps forward, carrying a copper-bound staff and wearing a narrow silver mask over one eye.

the Vironese mage

I will make your meaning plain, Commander.

The mage speaks toward the antlered guardian, and his words emerge in the beastfolk tongue, shaped by a strange, measured cadence. The reeds fall silent around them.

These are the Grand Army of Viron. They claim this shore and the lands beyond it. They offer peace, but will impose submission if opposed.

the stag beastfolk

Your words are understood, iron-walkers. You call conquest peace because your banners have not yet met our spears.

The stag lowers his spearhead a fraction, not in surrender but in warning. Along both headlands, hidden weapons remain still while every watching face weighs the company’s claim.

“*Griffith sighs deeply, and locks onto the Stag before him.* "CHARGE!!" *He yells, moving quickly to slice open the stags throat. These primitives stand no match for The Ashen Order, and the Santa Varia has its cannons pointed at the tree-line where the stags hide.* "Kill and maim! Force submission of these animals!"”

Charge! Kill and maim! Force submission of these animals!

Alpha Company follows in a crashing shield wall. Griffith reaches the stag beastfolk first, and his sword cuts across the guardian’s throat, killing him before he can raise his spear.

The stag beastfolk’s body falls among the reeds. Around him, his fellow stag clansmen recoil and lift their weapons as the Ashen Order presses into the shore.

Elara

Elara

Ashen Order, advance! Break their line and secure the beach!

A signal flashes from the flagship. Santa Varia’s cannons roar toward the tree line, sending smoke and splintered branches across the hidden stag positions.

The stag beastfolk tribe scatters deeper among the trees while Vironese soldiers seize the beach, shields locked and steel raised beneath the snapping banner.

“"Army Halt!" *He orders, not wanting to just charge into unknown territory.* "Archers! Loose into the trees! Elara, signal an attack flare to the fleet! I want the full, unbridled force of the Ashen Order brought down on this land!" *He looks to his men.* "Men, I hadn't want it to come to this, but we will secure this land through invasion!"”

Archers, loose into the trees! Elara, signal an attack flare to the fleet!

Elara

Ashen Order, obey the commander! Archers, nock and loose. Signal crew, raise the attack flare!

Bows bend in a single dark line. Arrows hiss into the foliage as a crimson flare climbs above the beach, its smoke twisting against the rain-bright sky.

Offshore, signal flags answer. Santa Varia and the waiting ships turn their guns toward the wooded shore, crews moving with practiced urgency as distant reports roll over the cove.

Griffith

Men, I had not wished it to come to this. We will secure this land through invasion. Bring the full, unbridled force of the Ashen Order down upon it.

For five grinding minutes, Vironese guns thunder against the tree line while arrows follow in dense volleys. Smoke and rain veil the cove as the forest falls silent.

When the firing stops, the stags who fled lie scattered among the reeds and wet undergrowth. Most are dead or too injured to rise, and the survivors cast aside their weapons.

Elara

Elara

They yield, Commander. The remaining stags kneel or lie prone, and none gathers the courage to challenge the line.

Ashen knights advance a cautious distance. Several surviving stags lower their antlers and raise empty hands, submitting beneath the smoke-stained Vironese standard.

the deck officer

Commander, the barrage has cleared a broad passage through the western growth. It leads inland toward higher ground.

Beyond the flattened reeds, a firm natural track winds between the trees, newly visible from the beach. It offers the landing force a direct route inland without forcing the densest forest.

The beach remains in Vironese hands. Smoke drifts seaward, surrendered stags stay motionless beneath watchful steel, and the cleared track waits beyond them.

“*Griffith looks to the stags.* "We accept your surrender, Beasts. You are now property of the Vironian Army." *He points to two of the stags who look uninjured enough to walk a decent enough distance.* "You two. Return to your tribe or wherever you come from. Tell them of our power, how we command the power to scorch the grounds and topple forests. Tell them to prepare for our arrival, and submit to us when we come, and they shall not be harmed." *The stags now see these creatures as gods of some kind. They have NEVER seen power like this.* **The active quest has been completed, the coast is safe.**”
