The Bell That Called Below

The ritual survivor opens the black book while the bound villager remains in the weeds, rubbing his cut wrists. The pages turn against the wind.

A second hand has cramped itself into the margins, squeezing ink between the printed lines. The handwriting grows narrower near the bottom, as though its author feared being overheard.

Her finger follows the cramped script. Beneath the orchard sketch, a bell is drawn upside down, its clapper crossed out in black.

From the eastern ruins, a single dull note trembles through the abandoned village. The book snaps shut in the ritual survivor's hands, and something beneath the orchard answers with three knocks.

Lushion raises the Staff of Dark Rituals toward the eastern ruins. Every hooded silhouette near the orchard becomes a possible ambush in his wary sight, scattering his attention before the spell takes shape.

Forbidden Knowledge supplies the missing pattern: dark threads must bind the bell through the bones, not around them. The staff channels the rite cleanly, its power gathering without waste.

Black cords of magic uncoil across the dead orchard and drag a loose pile of bones beneath the buried bell. Ribs lock around its bronze curve while finger bones knot through the clapper.

The bell shudders once inside its ossuary snare. The sound dies in the bones, leaving only a pressure in the teeth and a tremor fading beneath the soil.

The bound villager rises unsteadily beside the pit, staring toward the orchard. Beneath the earth, the answering knocks cease, and the black book remains shut in the survivor's hands.

The magic holds. Around the buried entrance, the orchard settles into an unnatural silence, while the bound villager and the survivor watch Lushion for what he will do next.
