The pulse beneath the chapel passes through the corridor without shifting a stone. Between two familiar walls, an unmarked passage appears, its darkness opening like a held breath.

The possessed artist remains behind beyond the buried road, while Irena accompanies Elvira into the impossible passage. Its narrow chamber waits ahead, lined with windows that look inward upon the ruined chapel from impossible heights.

Irena Salk

Irena Salk

This chamber is not in any keeper’s record. No road, no watch-post, no sealed annex should exist here.

The windows show the chapel roof below, though the chamber stands nowhere the walls could contain. Far beneath that impossible view, the living wound pulses once beneath blackened rock.

Aurelion

Aurelion

The ember burns cold because this place was made to hide a second theft, old friend.

At the chamber’s center, a second seal rests upright in a shallow niche. Its surface is pale and unmarked, yet the darkness around it bends inward.

Irena Salk

Irena Salk

I watched that wound for seventy years, but never knew this place existed. Whatever waits beyond that seal was kept from the keepers themselves.

✓ Quest Accepted

Escape the shifting passage

“using her knowledge of the arcane arts and her knowledge of necromancy, Elvira pushes with her mind into the seal to foresee any danger”

FAILURE (Good Occult Lore, rolled -2)

Elvira closes her eyes and reaches with arcane discipline into the pale seal’s presence, tracing its silence with the careful instincts of necromancy. Irena watches without interrupting.

Elvira the Black

Elvira the Black

The seal is present, but my mind cannot find where its presence begins.

Her probing thought touches the seal and slips sideways. For an instant, she senses a chamber without distance, a cold absence shaped like an unopened eye, then the connection folds shut.

Aurelion

Aurelion

Withdraw, old friend. That thing does not reveal danger to the seeker. It removes the seeker from its reckoning.

The pale seal remains upright in its niche, untouched and unread. Around it, the inward-bending darkness tightens, erasing the mental path Elvira tried to follow.

Irena Salk

Irena Salk

I saw no ward flare, but the room changed. The seal knows you reached for it now, and it will not be examined from here.

The impossible windows lose their view of the chapel and reflect only the chamber itself. The seal’s surface stays blank, while the darkness around it settles into a watchful stillness.

“boldly go in”

Elvira advances without hesitation. Her boots cross the impossible chamber, and the inward-bending darkness parts around her like a curtain that has learned to yield.

Irena Salk

Irena Salk

You walk toward what erased your reach, and it permits you to come closer. I have never seen a place surrender so quietly.

Irena follows several paces behind, keeping her weathered gaze on the blank windows. Their reflections now hold Elvira’s violet hair and the pale seal ahead, but no room beyond it.

Aurelion

Aurelion

Keep moving, old friend. The absence has recognized your will, even if it refuses to show its depths.

Elvira reaches the center of the chamber and passes it, coming within arm’s length of the upright seal. The darkness bends away from her path and gathers behind her.

Irena Salk

Irena Salk

There. You stand where no keeper ever stood. Whatever this chamber conceals, it is now facing you directly.

The pale seal remains blank, but its surface reflects Elvira’s face with unnatural clarity. Beyond her reflection, a depthless chamber waits, and the cold absence holds perfectly still.

“Elvira has an idea...thioa might be a remnant of the Lichs soul, left here as a custodian...but now the Lich canno t interfere any longer...so Elvira uses the dagger with the Lich bound to it to absorb the darkness and reveal the truth”

SUCCESS (Good Occult Lore, rolled +2)

Elvira draws Aurelion’s bone dagger. The bound darkness within its blade answers the pale seal, pulling at the chamber’s inward-folding gloom without disturbing the stone.

Irena Salk

Irena Salk

That is the Lich’s binding. You mean to make his prison consume the thing that hid this place?

Elvira holds the dagger toward the seal. Blackness streams from the chamber’s corners into the blade, narrowing the impossible distance until the windows become ordinary stone.

Aurelion

Aurelion

Do it, old friend. Let what remains of his stolen power serve truth once, and only once.

The last darkness enters the dagger with a sound like a breath drawn through a sealed throat. The pale seal turns transparent, revealing a chamber beneath the chapel.

Inside rests no custodian, but a preserved golden imprint of Aurelion’s heart, surrounded by the keeper’s records. The first crown-throne was built to drain it, and the wound was created when the theft failed.

Irena Salk

Irena Salk

Seventy years of watching, and I never knew the wound was his surviving heart. The truth was hidden beneath the lie itself.

✓ Quest Accepted

Secure Aurelion’s surviving heart

“Elvira reaches inside and gathers the heart, then, takes the ember she hid near her heart and puts it in the Heart...and then uses the dagger, the only bone remaining of Aurelion to seal the heart and give it new strenght in an attempt to revive her old friend.”

FAILURE (Good Occult Lore, rolled +0)

Elvira reaches through the transparent seal and gathers the preserved golden imprint. It feels weightless, yet its pulse fills her bones with the memory of immense wings.

She draws the ember from beneath her sternum and presses it into the heart. Gold flares through the imprint, while the chamber’s records tremble around her hands.

Irena Salk

Irena Salk

Do not force it awake. A heart preserved in failure may remember death more readily than life.

Elvira lays the dragon-bone dagger across the heart and draws its remaining radiance through the imprint. The golden shape contracts, refusing the ember rather than accepting it.

The attempt fails to revive Aurelion. Instead, the ember divides: one spark settles inside the heart, while the rest burns cold in Elvira’s palm.

Aurelion

Aurelion

Not here, old friend. The heart remembers the wound that made it sleep. Carry the living spark there, and it may remember how to beat.

The sealed heart becomes a small, steady sun within the transparent chamber. Beneath it, the records expose a route toward the living wound, offering a way forward rather than a resurrection.

“Elvira takes the heart into one of the many folds of her cloak, and puts the remaining ember shard again near her heart, to keep it warm.”

SUCCESS (Superb Agility, rolled -1)

Elvira gathers the preserved heart into one of the many folds of her shadow-dark cloak. The fabric closes around its steady golden pulse, hiding it without dimming it.

The remaining ember shard rests cold in her palm. She draws it close and settles it near her heart, where the warmth beneath her sternum receives it.

Irena Salk

Irena Salk

Carefully done. The heart is hidden, and the living spark is near the place that can answer it.

The shard warms by degrees. A muted golden pulse passes through Elvira’s ribs, answering the heart concealed in her cloak across the short distance between them.

Aurelion

Aurelion

That is enough, old friend. Do not wake what sleeps by force. Carry the spark to the wound, and let memory choose its hour.

The transparent chamber falls still. In Elvira’s cloak, the preserved heart keeps its small sun; beneath her sternum, the ember shard burns warm and patient.

Elvira leaves the transparent chamber and follows the exposed route without hesitation. The impossible walls bend aside, carrying her and Irena down toward the living wound beneath the chapel.

Irena Salk

Irena Salk

The passage knows where you are going. It has stopped hiding the road from us.

The preserved heart pulses beneath Elvira’s cloak. Its answering light spreads across the floor, revealing old chapel foundations descending into blackened rock and amber-lit dust.

Aurelion

Aurelion

We are there, old friend. The wound is beneath your feet, and it remembers the shape of my heart.

Elvira reaches the bottom of the descent. A broad fissure opens beneath the ruined chapel, its depths filled with slow golden radiance that beats in exact time with the heart she carries.

Irena Salk

Irena Salk

Seventy years ago, this light was only a wound. Now it is answering you.

The living wound opens wider without a sound. Golden warmth rises around Elvira, and the preserved heart answers from her cloak as the route delivers her directly to its waiting depths.
