Light snaps shut around the vaulted chamber, then tears open again. Alton Cross and the squad slam onto rough stone in a different stretch of corridor, the air cold and silent.
It is the south-running hallway, plain and narrow, with close walls and a hard floor that carries every boot scrape. The dungeon feels still, but wrong, like it has just shifted its weight.

Kaelith
Hold. Everyone find your feet.
The fighters fan out on instinct, shields half-raised. Kaelith turns in place, checking the corridor behind and ahead, tense but steady.

Alton Cross
This is the south corridor before the stream crossing.

Kaelith
We were pulled back. Same path, different hand on it.
Fine dust drifts from the ceiling and settles over the scuffed floor. Somewhere deeper in the dungeon, a low hum fades, leaving only the squad’s breathing and the scrape of metal.

Kaelith
Your command, Alton.

“Take poll who wants to go back and who wants to continue south”
SUCCESS (Great Persuasion, rolled -1)

Alton Cross
Take a count. Who wants to go back, and who wants to keep heading south?
The line settles into a rough semicircle around him. Boots scrape, shields lower a fraction, and heads turn toward Kaelith, then back to Alton as if waiting for the shape of the answer to matter.

Kaelith
Back gets us certainty. South gets us motion. I vote south, unless you see a better lie in the stone.
A few fighters answer with nods and muttered agreement, though one grips his sword so tight his knuckles pale. The tally is plain enough, south by a narrow margin.

Kaelith
That settles it. We keep moving, but we do it clean. No stragglers, no shouting.
As the squad shifts back into order, Alton’s question costs him a beat of silence and a little breath, the kind that shows in the cold air. The corridor answers with only dust and the faint, shifting blue glow leaking through stone far behind them.

Kaelith
If the dungeon wants us lost, it will have to work harder than that. Alton, lead on.
