Stella;) steps out of Rosa Lewis’s workshop and into the hallway. The noise drops away at once, replaced by the hum of fluorescent lights and the stale scent of old coffee and floor wax.

She pushes into a small breakroom with a window facing the city. Folding chairs, a dented microwave, and a scarred table sit under dim, yellow light. For once, no sensor blink follows her in.

This is better. A little quiet never hurts after all that.

Jane lingers near the doorway with the plush fox tucked close, her shoulders easing as she looks from Stella;) to the window.

We can take five here. I want the readings to settle before we try anything else.

Rosa stays by the threshold, watchful but less tense than before, while the room holds its breath around them. Outside, the city lights begin to prick on through the glass.

Stella;)

Stella;)

The breakroom is empty enough to hear the lights buzz.

Can you show me the sensor data on your tablet?

Rosa exhales once, then angles the tablet toward Stella;). The screen wakes with a pale grid, amber marks clustered in a pattern that is less random than it first looked.

Rosa Lewis

Rosa Lewis

There, see this spike. It is not a glitch. It is a response.

Jane Singer

That is a lot cleaner than the panic in the workshop made it sound.

Jane shifts the plush fox higher against her chest, watching the numbers like they might bruise. The room feels smaller with the screen lit up between them.

Your magic is settling into a repeatable shape. Not calm, exactly, but measurable.

The tablet’s glow catches the coffee stain on the table and Rosa’s tired eyes. Stella;) gets the data, but the careful way Rosa holds the device makes it plain, this is still Rosa’s reach, not a gift freely handed over.

I ask Rosa what the spikes mean

Stella;)

What do the spikes mean?

Rosa Lewis

Rosa Lewis

They mean your magic is not random. It is testing boundaries, then settling where it can hold.

Jane Singer

Jane Singer

So the readings are not a warning sign, they are a pattern. That is... honestly reassuring.

Rosa Lewis

Rosa Lewis

More than reassuring. It means there is structure under the volatility, and structure can be studied.

Rosa tilts the tablet back toward herself, tracing the clustered amber marks with one finger. Jane eases onto the bench, plush fox balanced in her lap, and the tightness in her shoulders loosens a little.

The spikes keep repeating in the same places.

Rosa Lewis

If you want, I can print these out and map the changes with you. Right here, not in the workshop.
