Aelwyn and Loric emerge from the woodland trail into Briarhollow, where the old stone well stands amid baskets of turnips, jars, and glowing lanterns. Evening gathers softly over the village.

Several villagers notice Aelwyn at once. Warm smiles spread through the gathering, and an elderly woman in a russet shawl lifts a hand in welcome while children whisper near the well.

Margy

Margy

Aelwyn, dear, you came at just the right time. We were wondering whether the forest had swallowed you whole.

Loric remains beside Aelwyn, his travel-worn armor dusty from the trail. Friendly greetings falter as more villagers look him over, measuring the sword at his side and the road upon him.

And who is this, then? We do not often see armed strangers walking out of the Hollow with our herbalist.

Loric

Loric

My name is Loric. I am a wandering knight, or as near to one as a man without a lord can honestly claim. I met Aelwyn in the woods and meant no trouble.

The villagers exchange glances. Some relax at his plain admission, while others remain curious, their questions gathering like rainclouds above the lantern-lit well.

SUCCESS (Good Diplomacy, rolled +3)

Aelwyn

Aelwyn

Margy, Elford, and Loric escorted me past the Veiled Path. I was a little lost, but Loric has been so kind, so I offered him supper. Do you know if the Golden Hare has their turkey tonight?

Aelwyn takes Margy’s weathered hands between her own. The elderly woman’s sternness melts into fond amusement, while Loric stands quietly beside them beneath the lantern glow.

Margy

Margy

Turkey tonight, dear? Indeed they do. The Golden Hare began serving at dusk, with roasted roots and sage gravy besides.

Margy

Margy

And bring your knightly friend inside. I shall tell the keeper to save you both the corner table before the crowd takes it.

Loric

Loric

You are kind to offer it, Aelwyn. I would be honored to share supper, though I confess the turkey sounds more welcoming than any feast I have found on the road.

A few villagers chuckle, and the unease around Loric loosens. Margy gives his armored sleeve an approving pat, then gestures toward the lantern-marked lane leading to the inn.

Margy

Margy

There now, settled. Go on before the good gravy cools, and tell the Golden Hare Margy sent you. They will add fresh honey cakes to the table.
