The young woman unfastens her mud-streaked satchel and produces a sealed letter. A lordly crest presses deep into the wax, crossed by a second mark in necromancer’s ink.

That mark appeared after the pilgrim died. Whoever sent the arrow wants this letter buried with him.

The skeleton reaches toward the parchment. At its bony touch, the black symbol flares violet, then twists into a narrow sigil pointing north through the trees.

Necromantic wayfinding. I have seen that sign before, on grave-stones belonging to men who vanished from my lord’s service.

The glow fades, leaving the seal unbroken. Beyond the hut, the northern woods descend toward old gravefields, where pale ground shows between the pines.

I followed that trail and took an arrow for it. Knight, necromancer, whoever you are, I demand protection from the one who sent it.

Protection is no small oath. Yet if the gravefields hold the answer, none of us should walk there alone.

Let myself and my skeleton lead. Our nature may render us immune to harm.

Lazorus moves north with the skeleton at his side, following the violet sigil’s direction. The retired knight and young woman fall in behind, wary but willing.

Then lead, necromancer. If the dead can brave what waits there, I will not hide behind the living.

The skeleton’s feet grind loudly over roots and frozen earth, announcing the party’s passage. Birds burst from the pines, and the young woman grips her cloak against the sudden silence.

Quiet would serve us better, but your dead guide has found the path. I can see the gravefields ahead.

The trees open onto pale ground crowded with leaning stones. The skeleton reaches the first marker, and the necromantic sigil burns briefly across its ribs before fading.

We have arrived. Whatever summoned that mark lies among these graves, and now it knows we are here.
