Marked Lanes, Watch the Skyway

The Florensa surges through the narrow opening, blue pylons smearing into streaks. Warren’s gloved hand strikes a concealed red button beneath the dash, and hidden machinery wakes under the floor.

The Florensa kicks forward in a brutal burst. The cracked windshield fills with lamps and rising landing barriers while the old frame screams around its newer engine.

Venci turns and raises his cyberpunk phone toward the winged gargoyle, a winged adult gargoyle with slate-gray hide, a heavy stone-like build, glowing amber eyes, and ragged membrane wings. The scan locks before the creature slips beyond the lamps, sorting its silhouette through layered alien biology tags.

The phone identifies the gargoyle as a wild outer-planetary organism, nonnative to Nebummesa. Its entry is listed as probable stowaway or stolen-ship arrival, with no domestic registry match.

Red barrier lights climb across the approach as the speed burst begins to fade. The radio hisses beneath the priest’s warning, leaving the narrowing landing route ahead.

Venci braces both feet against the Florensa’s floor and locks his shoulder into the seat. The burst throws him forward, but his posture absorbs it cleanly, keeping him anchored as the car races toward the barriers.

Warren’s hands stay firm on the wheel while the Florensa dives beneath the rising red lights. The newer engine snarls, then settles into a hard, controlled pull.

The prayer returns beneath the radio static, low and synchronized with the engine. Above the approach, the winged gargoyle clears the lamps and disappears into the dark beyond the landing grid.

The Florensa passes beneath the first barrier as it lifts, suspension shuddering but holding. Warren guides the car onto Long Island’s blackened landing road without losing speed.
