The Cartel's ruin

The waiting car idles two blocks south, its headlights washing the curb. Jessie stands beside the open passenger door, eyes fixed on the alley behind the Golden Wing. Mateo watches from the driver’s side.

Jessie reaches for the trunk release but does not open it yet. Her attention stays on the office exit, where a sliver of violet light cuts across the service corridor.

From the club, a side door bangs open. Four armed guards emerge into the alley, scanning the service route and then the street. Mateo lowers his voice and checks the rearview mirror.

The engine continues running, Jessie holds the trunk open, and the black case remains with Urbie at the edge of the alley. No one moves until he decides.

Urbie loads the black case into the trunk and takes the wheel. Jessie folds into the passenger seat while Mateo climbs into the back, and the Golden Wing Guards spill farther into the alley behind them.

The car surges south, tires chirping as Urbie threads through service streets. A dark sedan appears twice in the mirrors, forcing him off the direct route before the apartment’s neighborhood comes into view.

Urbie turns hard into the suggested lane, but the sedan stays close. The apartment remains unreachable by car for now, while Mateo’s route reveals a concealed approach and a chance to arrive unseen.

Urbie threads the car through light traffic, taking two last-minute turns between delivery vans and taxis. The dark sedan follows, losing ground but never disappearing from the mirrors.

Urbie cuts around a slow truck and turns sharply onto a narrower street. For one breath, the sedan vanishes behind the traffic, and the route toward the municipal garage opens ahead.

Urbie turns the corner, but the dark sedan appears again at the far end of the street. Traffic compresses around the car, leaving no clean break and no safe way to continue toward the apartment.

The failed chase leaves the apartment route exposed, but Mateo’s concealed garage approach remains reachable before the sedan can close the distance. The car has to be abandoned there or risk another forced turn.

Urbie takes Mateo’s lane, steering hard toward the municipal garage. The narrow approach bends behind a concrete divider, and the pursuing sedan compresses the gap as traffic clears.

The turn comes tighter than expected. The car’s front corner clips the divider with a jolt, tearing away a strip of paint, while Urbie keeps control and avoids spinning into the curb.

Urbie brakes beside the divider instead of forcing the garage entrance. The sedan slows at the mouth of the lane, unable to pass cleanly without exposing itself to the cross street.

Mateo points through the fence toward a narrow maintenance passage and a recessed door marked Municipal Access. The car is damaged but drivable, while the foot route offers cover beyond the sedan’s sightline.

Urbie leaves the damaged car and guides Jessie and Mateo through the fence into the maintenance passage. He moves quickly and quietly, keeping the sedan’s sightline blocked by concrete and parked utility bins.

The passage bends behind the municipal garage and ends at a recessed service door. Mateo uses the access latch, and Urbie brings them through into the far exit without drawing attention.

Beyond the garage, a service road opens toward a row of low buildings and back alleys. A municipal map board beside the exit marks a second route east, avoiding the main streets entirely.

Urbie leads them east on foot, with the garage between them and the cartel car. The black case remains secured in his possession, and the hidden route gives them a clear approach to his apartment.
