Zeto: Ice and Spirit

Janet continues retreating along the mansion’s outer drive, white rapier raised. Frost cracks beneath her feet, marking the path between her and the advancing Pinno.

Marlene breaks from the stone arch with her camera still recording, brown hair shifting as she points toward a narrow service court beside the mansion.

The Pinno’s enormous head snaps toward Marlene. Its heavy shadow-black body pivots, abandoning Janet’s line and grinding across the drive toward the exposed observer.

Marlene backs toward the service court, keeping the camera aimed at the Pinno. The pedestrian has already passed beyond the garden, leaving only the two Blankos and the threat.

Janet closes her eyes and slides across the frost toward Marlene, white rapier held low. The Pinno surges after them, its immense shadow swallowing the drive.

She pours everything into the blade. Ice erupts in a widening wave, racing beneath the Pinno and spiraling up its monstrous body.

The creature locks in place, frozen from its feet to its bent head. The service court and surrounding ground transform into a brilliant garden of crystalline pillars and white branches.

The rapier’s hilt bites cold into Janet’s palm, and numbness climbs her arm. Her knees dip as the last reserve leaves the blade.

Marlene steadies her camera and circles the frozen perimeter. Its red recording light reflects across the ice, catching the Pinno’s trapped silhouette from every angle.
