The Component Beneath the City

Highway 1001 opens beneath a bruised neon sky. Jackal arrives as the convoy breaks apart, one escort vehicle burning across the lanes while armed raiders swarm a cargo truck.

The Rabid Dogs wrench sealed containers from the truck and shove them toward a stolen hauler. Their patchwork armor flashes under muzzle fire and emergency strobes.

Behind reinforced windows, convoy workers press against the wrecked transport, watching the lanes for an opening. Smoke crawls low across the asphalt, hiding scattered equipment and bodies.

A corporate recovery drone swarm drops over the overpass, blue targeting beams combing the raid. The Rabid Dogs turn toward the approaching machines, but keep loading the stolen tech.

Jackal drives an EMP surge through his cybernetics and snaps the pulse toward the lead recovery drone. Blue targeting beams fracture across the smoke.

The drone bucks but stays airborne. Its recovery protocol reroutes power into a tight emergency loop, shedding the broad scan that covered the convoy.

The remaining drones converge on the damaged unit instead of the truck. Their blue beams overlap, leaving a dark wedge beneath the overpass and beside the wrecked transport.

Across the lanes, the Rabid Dogs keep hauling black cases, unaware that the overpass shadow now reaches the cargo truck's rear access panel.

Jackal leaves the convoy workers’ pleas unanswered. Their voices blur behind reinforced glass as he slips into the dark wedge beneath the overpass.

Smoke folds around his heavy silhouette and cybernetic frame. Above, the recovery drones tighten their blue beams around the damaged lead unit, abandoning the truck’s rear.

The black cases thump against the stolen hauler’s loading deck. The Rabid Dogs remain fixed on the transfer, their attention turned toward the drone cluster.

Behind him, the convoy workers keep calling through the damaged transport, but Jackal passes the rear access panel without answering or slowing.

The blind approach holds. Jackal reaches the cargo truck’s rear quarter under cover of smoke, while the raid and recovery protocol continue beyond the shadow.

Jackal reaches the hauler’s shadowed rear and joins the Rabid Dogs’ withdrawal. He grabs the nearest black case, locks it against his heavy frame, and moves with the loading line.

The Rabid Dogs slam the hauler’s doors and climb aboard. Engines snarl beneath the overpass as the vehicle pulls away from the burning escort and the tightening drone beams.

Jackal settles the stolen case among the others and braces as the hauler cuts across the service shoulder. Smoke and emergency strobes slide backward across its armored panels.

The hauler disappears beneath the next overpass with Jackal and the Rabid Dogs aboard, black cases secured. Behind them, the convoy and recovery drones shrink into the neon haze.
