Adventure of Kannon 1

Mist coils across a bleak moorland crossroads. Beneath Kannon’s feet, an unfinished summoning mark burns in broken circles, its light trembling through the fog.

Beyond the flames, a ring of toppled boundary stones cracks apart. A tall god stands within it, robed in dim starlight, one hand extended toward the mark.

The hooded spirit raises a pale hand. Several armed attendants shift around it, their washed-out faces turned toward the god, weapons ready but held in check.

Fog pours through the widening cracks, swallowing tufts of moor grass and the old road markers. The god reaches again, fingers hovering above the blazing sigil.

Every face turns toward Kannon. The ritual fire gutters at her shoes while the spirit’s attendants tighten their formation, awaiting what she will do.

Kannon does not interfere. She remains within the broken circle as the god’s hand lowers, though the ritual fire licks higher around her shoes.

The god gathers the scattered light into a single thread and draws it through the unfinished mark. The fog recoils from the crossroads.

The sigil closes beneath Kannon’s feet, its broken circles joining in a flash of white-gold. The crossroads steadies, and the god’s power settles into her.

A sharp heat brands a narrow line across Kannon’s palm where stray magic catches her. The pain fades quickly, leaving a glowing mark beneath the skin.
