The Hunt Ends at the Terminal

The neon-drenched air of Sector 4 fades as Tsuko ascends to the district above. He steps off the maintenance lift and into a desolate alleyway, the false storefront of the server hub looming ahead like a jagged monolith. Digital ghosts dance across his cybernetic sunglasses, the Controller's signal burning bright and erratic.

My eyes don't lie. That signal is leaking from behind the reinforced steel of that shop. Every data packet is a breadcrumb leading straight to the source of my misery.

He approaches the entrance, his boots crunching on glass shards. The storefront is a facade for high-grade encryption, but the lock is already compromised, likely a lure left by his target. Tsuko pushes the door open. Inside, a sea of flickering blue monitors illuminates the cramped space, and a lone figure sits at the central terminal, wires trailing from their neck like a metallic nervous system.

The hunt ends here. Step away from the terminal and keep your hands where I can see them.

The Hunt Ends at the Terminal

Tsuko fires once. The shot cracks through the humming room, and the Drone Controller jerks back from the terminal. Their chair skids hard across the floor, cables snapping loose as blue light stutters over the monitors.

The controller collapses sideways, and the screen behind them blooms with static. One hand twitches against the console, then goes still.

For a beat, the server hub only breathes its electric noise. Fan blades whine. Status bars cascade into unreadable red.

Drone Controller

No... not like this.

The central terminal spits out a final string of corrupted symbols, then locks behind a dark pane of glassy black.

Somewhere deeper in the hub, a relay clicks open with a soft mechanical snap, as if the building itself has just noticed its master is gone.

From the back corridor, a hidden door slides a finger-width ajar, leaking cold white light and the sound of something powering up inside.
