The passage from the first crypt opens behind Sirtoy, spilling her into the royal graveyard. Dawnlight flickers across hundreds of tombs while mist unwinds between their stones.
The dragon in human form waits among the graves, charcoal robe and weathered mantle motionless in the chill. His ember-bright eyes follow the crown's heart as it pulses toward the sealed coronation road.
The Dragon in Human Form
The first claim is severed, but the road remembers every coronation that fed it. The heart is drawing toward the seal.
Beyond the cemetery walls, bells answer one another in frantic peals. Distant shouting swells from the capital, carrying the news that Aldren's claim has fallen silent.
The Dragon in Human Form
They know something has changed. Whether they know why, I cannot say. If the heart reaches the coronation road, the living throne may answer it.
The relic's pulse strengthens in Sirtoy's hand, each beat sending a faint silver line over the frostbound ground. At the cemetery gate, the first bars of dawn catch fire.
The Dragon in Human Form
I remained here as promised. The road ahead is yours to face, living bearer, and the capital is already waking to its consequences.
