The monks clear the last of the bridge, and Delmirev follows Oryn into the monastery’s stone heart. Firelight rolls over wet cloaks and rough walls, chasing the ravine chill from the room.
Oryn slows by the hearth and gestures Delmirev toward a low bench. The stern guard from the bridge is gone from his posture, leaving a tired host in his place.

Oryn
Sit. Warm yourself. You have crossed enough stone for one night.
The Hermit stays near the doorway, half in shadow, watching the fire snap and bend. Monk One and Monk Two remain back, quiet as carved posts, but no longer barring the way.

The Hermit
The hearth is kinder than the bridge. Let him hear what was promised here.

Monk One
The stranger passed the test. Now we see what kind of silence he keeps.
Oryn pours a cup and sets it within Delmirev's reach, then lowers himself into a chair with a long exhale. The room settles around them, all embers, damp wool, and the soft hiss of settling wood.

Oryn
If you have questions for this house, ask them now. The fire listens better than the bridge does.

Learn the monastery's history with the bridge-wyrm
“I sit on the bench and ask Oryn to show me the records of the bridge-wyrm.”
SUCCESS (Mediocre Persuasion, rolled +2)

Delmirev settles onto the bench, and the old wood answers with a dry creak. The fire throws gold across his robes as he looks to Oryn and asks for the records of the bridge-wyrm.

Oryn
You may see them. Not because I trust the pages, but because you ask plainly.
Oryn rises at once, moving with a host's care instead of a guard's caution. He limps to a wall niche and draws out a wrapped bundle, then pauses, thumb resting over a sealed cord.

The Hermit
That seal has slept longer than most prayers. Break it, and let the truth breathe.
Oryn gives the Hermit a long look, then back to Delmirev. His voice comes quieter, roughened by memory.

Oryn
This monastery once fed the wyrm before it was called a guardian. Then pride rose, the offering stopped, and the bridge became a bargain with silence.
He sets the bundle in Delmirev's reach, but leaves the cord unbroken for the moment, as if waiting to see whether the truth is welcomed or feared.
“I break the seal and read the records”
SUCCESS (Fair Reasoning, rolled +2)

Delmirev takes the bundle from the stone and breaks the cord seal. Wax flakes onto his robes as the wrapping loosens in his hands.

Delmirev
The seal is older than the knotwork around it.
Inside, he finds brittle pages, copied by many hands. The first lines name an offering, not a guardian, and describe grain left at dawn for the bridge-wyrm.
A later page marks the turning. Pride, then silence, then a vow made in shame, the monastery swearing to keep the bridge and remember what it withheld.

Oryn
There it is, the part we did not say aloud. We were meant to feed it, and we failed.

The Hermit
And the dead kept the score longer than the living dared.
Oryn watches Delmirev read on, his jaw set, but he does not reach for the pages. The room holds its breath around the fire, waiting for what Delmirev sees next.
