Heavy oak groans open, and the tavern inside waits like a held breath. Dozens of locals sit frozen at their tables, mugs half raised, eyes glassy and unblinking.

A low thrumming rolls through the floorboards, steady as a heartbeat, rising from the cellar below.

John Grey fell steps in, and the room does not react, as if the entire hall has been caught between one moment and the next.

At the bar, the barkeep turns his head with a sharp, unnatural jerk. His eyes are black as ink.

At last. Someone still walks.

He keeps pouring, though the cup is already full. The drink climbs upward in a thin shining ribbon, defying gravity, and the sound from the cellar deepens.

If you came for the seal, then choose quickly. Break it, or hold it. The dark below is waking.

John Grey fell moves, and the room stays trapped in its frozen breath. The locals do not shift, but their blank gazes track nothing as he passes between their tables.

He slips by a raised mug and a crust of bread, the vibration in the floorboards tugging at his boots with every step.

At the back, the cellar door waits beneath a seam of blackened wood, and the thrumming below beats harder against it.

Too late to turn back now. Choose what kind of ruin you bring down there.

The barkeep’s pour slivers higher, a bright stream climbing into the air, and one candle guttering by the bar dies with a snap.

John Grey fell reaches the cellar door, but the spell’s pressure strikes him like a shove, forcing a breath from his lungs.

The door shudders under the pulse from below, and the dark in the crack beneath it thickens, waiting for his next move.

I speak loudly... " my one night off and you choose tonight to fuck with it? Leave now or I will suck the very essence out of you. This is your only warning. "

My one night off, and you choose tonight to test me? Leave now, or I strip the essence from you. This is your only warning.

The tavern seems to hold its breath. The barkeep’s lifted pitcher stills, and the rising pour trembles in the air like a thread about to snap.

Bram

Bram

...You know what stands under this floor.

For the first time, the black-eyed man looks less like a master of the room and more like a witness cornered by it. The cellar door gives one hard pulse, then the black seam beneath it opens to a pale line of dawn-colored light.

Bram

I was holding it shut. Not for myself. For everyone still breathing in this village.

The force in the door slackens at John Grey fell’s words, and the hidden pressure withdraws like a hand unclenching. The bar candle relights with a soft flare, and the climbing pour falls back into the pitcher.

If you mean to keep your warning, then choose. Seal it stronger, or let me open the way and face what has waited there.

" Break the seal Barkeep. I'm hungry, and the food in this tavern has done little to quench my hunger. "

John Grey fell lifts his hand, and the pale seam answers at once. The light thickens, cracks across the cellar door, and the hidden ward gives way with a dry, ancient snap.

Break the seal.

The door shudders open under the last of the binding, and a gust of cold, stale air rolls up from below. The barkeep’s pitcher jerks in his grip as the ward breaks, and the tavern candle leans hard in the draft.

Then it is done. Gods help us, it is done.

A sharp sting bites John Grey fell’s palm where the seal resists one final instant, then releases. A thin trickle of blood marks the wood, and the cellar darkness below stirs like something waking to its name.

Bram

Bram

He has opened it. Now there is no keeping the truth hidden.

The tavern’s stillness does not return. Instead, the silence deepens, and from the open stair a voice, too low to be human, brushes the edge of hearing.
