Davin and the elven emissary crash into a cool chamber of dressed stone, hidden beneath the dragon’s ribcage. Dust drifts through torchless dark, and the air smells of old ash and sealed magic.

Faded murals of the Phoenix-Scale Clan ring the walls, half lost to age. At the center, a pedestal waits beneath a dim silver glow, the relic atop it humming with familiar, protective power.

The emissary pushes up beside Davin, shaken but steadying, eyes fixed on the pedestal as if afraid to hope.

The chamber falls quiet except for the relic’s low hum, and somewhere behind the walls, the stone answers with a faint, distant pulse.

Davin steps in close to the pedestal, slow and careful. The silver hum ripples over his claws, and his sharp eyes catch a hairline seam in the stone before any hand touches the relic.

He angles Aethelgard aside and checks the base, tracing the edge with one claw. Dust shifts away from a hidden groove, and the glow brightens as if answering his inspection.

A cold draft rises from beneath the floor, carrying a thin, sour taste of necromantic fumes. The distant pulse behind the walls returns, steadier now, like something waking below the chamber.

When Davin shifts his weight, the relic stays secure, but the stone ring around it gives a faint, trapped click. The pedestal is safe to approach, and the chamber now offers a direction hidden under the warded base.

The floor tiles beneath the pedestal vibrate in rhythmic, sickening pulses that match the thrumming in the walls. Davin watches as a hairline crack in the stone floor widens, leaking a sickly, violet vapor that confirms the source of the necromancy lies deep within the earth.

Davin shifts his hand from the trembling tiles to the split seam, tracing the jagged line with black claws. The crack is not random. It bends around a hidden ring of fitted stone, and the violet mist spills from a narrow throat below.

He pries at the seam. Stone grinds softly, then gives way with a dry click, exposing a dark lip of carved steps descending into the floor.

The opening breathes out a sour wave of necromantic air, and the haze thickens around their ankles as if something below has noticed the light.

Within the exposed dark, a faint metallic gleam rests on the first step, half-buried in dust and ash, while the floor behind Davin keeps shivering with buried force.
