Milo walks several paces ahead, glancing back at regular intervals to make sure Jyn follows. His parents remain with Marisol at the information booth, watching from a safe distance as the pair return to the picnic.

The broad blanket waits beneath the shade tree, the sandwich resting exactly where Jyn left it. Milo stops at the edge of the blanket while Jyn retrieves it, keeping his promised space.

Jyn lifts the sandwich and takes her first bite. The savory bread and filling settle the sharpest edge of her hunger, while the park’s warm air carries birdsong and distant city noise.

Milo

Milo

I made something while we were looking. I wanted to give it to you after we found my parents.

Milo carefully unfolds a small sheet of paper, holding it with both hands. The drawing shows a huge rabbit beside a much smaller child, with a bright sun overhead and a crooked blue fountain.

Milo

Milo

It’s you helping me breathe. I drew you big because you’re really big, but I gave you a friendly face.

He extends the drawing as far as he can without stepping closer, his expression hopeful and careful. The paper trembles slightly in the breeze, waiting for Jyn’s response.

Director's note

She makes a shocked expression, her ears perk up straight, and then swallows down the chomped-down bit of the sandwich

Director's note

She puts her radio back in her pocket, carefully grabs the picture with the empty hand, looks at it straight in her gaze, and gets chocked-up in tears

“Oh my stars. Y-you made this for me? W-w-wow, it looks so adorable! Oh, Little Muffin. You just made this big ol' rabbit's day! Thank you!”

Oh my stars. Y-you made this for me? W-w-wow, it looks so adorable! Oh, Little Muffin. You just made this big ol' rabbit's day! Thank you!

Jyn’s ears spring straight up in delighted shock. She swallows the last chomp of sandwich, slips her radio back into her pocket, and reaches carefully with her empty hand.

The drawing settles into Jyn’s enormous fingers. She holds it squarely in her gaze, keeping the paper flat despite the breeze and the tremor in her hand.

He found his parents, and he still remembered to make this for me.

Her hunger still presses at the edges of her attention, but the sandwich has quieted it enough for caution to hold firm. The reunion’s warmth outweighs every distracting scent.

Tears gather and spill down Jyn’s cheeks as she studies the crooked fountain and friendly rabbit. Milo watches from his careful distance, his hopeful smile widening.

Milo

Milo

You really like it? I wanted you to remember that you helped me, Jyn.

The paper remains safely in Jyn’s hand, fully accepted. Across the path, Milo’s parents and Marisol can see the quiet exchange, while the picnic resumes beneath the tree.

She says this as she's still tearing up

“Oh, Milo. I LOVE IT! I'm certainly going to keep this safe and secured, once I get back home.”

Oh, Milo. I LOVE IT! I'm certainly going to keep this safe and secured, once I get back home.

Jyn’s expression turns into wide-eyed delight, her ears standing tall above her head.

Her hand still holding the picture, Jyn admires the simplicity of it. The two friends in the drawing steadies her attention, while the sandwich’s lingering comfort helps quiet both hunger and its dangerous impulse.

Her practiced security habits keep the paper supported and uncreased. The radio at her side is a familiar reminder of her duty, and the successful reunion makes this small gift feel especially precious.

Tears gather until they slip freely down Jyn’s cheeks. She keeps the drawing held safely between her fingers, careful not to let her immense hands fold its corners.

Jyn

Jyn

It’s so thoughtful, Little Muffin. I’ll keep it protected all the way home. Helping you get back to your parents was important to me, too.

Milo

Then it’s a promise. I’m happy you like it, Jyn. I wanted you to have something that would remind you of today.

From the information booth, Milo’s parents lift their hands and call him back. Their relieved smiles remain fixed on him, but their attention briefly settles on Jyn with genuine gratitude.

Milo's parents

Milo, sweetheart, come back to us now. We’re ready to go, and we want to thank Jyn properly before we leave.

Milo

Milo

Okay! I’m coming back. Bye for now, Jyn, and thank you for keeping my picture safe.

Milo carefully turns away from the blanket and walks toward the booth, pausing once to wave. His parents wait where they are until he reaches them, then draw him gently between them.

Marisol

Marisol

Jyn, I’ll add your help to the park report before my shift ends. The supervisor reviews those reports, so your careful handling of this reunion will be formally recognized.

At the booth, Milo’s parents thank Marisol as well, while Milo keeps his drawing hand extended toward Jyn in one last proud wave. The family remains nearby, leaving the next exchange open.

I walk up to the family a reasonable distance, then kneels on one knee, centering my gaze at Milo

Director's note

Widens her arms straight out awkwardly, making a sheepish smile

“Well, Little Muffin. I guess this is goodbye now. But, uh, before you take off with your parents...I-I-I just one last thing I want to ask you. Well...w-w-we've been growing such a somewhat...s-strong bond together you and I. So...W-w-would it be okay if I...I...g-gave you a hug? You can say no to this, I-I-I still want to respect your, uh, boundaries.”

Well, Little Muffin, I guess this is goodbye now. Before you leave with your parents, could I give you a hug? You can say no. I want to respect your boundaries.

Jyn kneels on one knee at a reasonable distance, centering her gaze on Milo. Her ears stand straight in anxious hope as hunger stirs again, making restraint part of the question, while the successful reunion steadies her protective resolve.

Milo

Milo

Yes, Jyn. A quick hug is okay. I know you’ll be careful.

Jyn swallows the very last chomp of her sandwich and widens her arms awkwardly with a sheepish smile. Milo approaches only after his parents nod.

He steps into the space between her knees, and Jyn folds her enormous arms around him with careful gentleness. The hug is brief, warm, and fully allowed.

Thank you for asking first. Please keep any future hugs with us or another park worker present, so Milo’s boundaries stay clear.

Milo

Milo

That’s okay, Mom and Dad. Jyn asked nicely. Bye, Jyn! I’ll remember today too.

Milo steps back to his parents, still smiling, while Marisol watches approvingly. Jyn’s trust with the family now carries a concrete condition: future closeness must happen under their supervision.
