The cabin has finally gone quiet. Rain ticks softly at the roof while the kettle hums on the stove, and the clutter of packed bags looks less like a getaway and more like a life trying to begin.

Mercedes moves around the cramped room with a mug in hand, while Sakura folds blankets near the window. Allison sits back in the corner with guarded patience, Porsche leans against the wall, and Xero watches the steam rise like he is studying a spell no one asked him to learn.

A small, reluctant smile passes through the room. Even Xero lets the silence settle instead of cutting it apart.

Porsche exhales a laugh, half amused and half wounded. Xero looks toward Sakura, then away, as if permission matters more than pride right now. The kettle clicks off, and the cabin sinks into a warmer hush.

Mercedes lets the quiet settle before she cuts through it, dry and precise. The cabin hushes as all three adults react at once, the easy domestic stillness bending around her words.

Porsche shifts first, lifting both hands in surrender. Allison’s shoulders loosen, and she steps back from Sakura’s side with visible care. Xero pauses, eyes fixed on Mercedes, then gives the smallest tilt of his head and turns away from the center of the room.

The space around Sakura opens at once, the cabin feeling larger without the three adults pressing in. On the table, a shared cup of tea sits untouched, steam thinning in the lamplight.

Mercedes gives Sakura the room without making a show of it, just a small shift of her body and a look that sends the others toward the doorway. The cabin settles again, quieter now, with only rain and lamp crackle filling the gap.

Sakura glances toward the opened space, then back to Mercedes. Her shoulders drop a fraction, like she has been holding herself together all evening and can finally stop.

She reaches for the untouched tea, wraps both hands around the cup, and looks down at the steam as if it has something to say.

The words land softly. Sakura smiles, small and honest, then tilts the cup toward Mercedes in silent invitation to stay.

Mercedes lifts a hand and gives Sakura a gentle pat on the head, brief and careful, like she is handling something precious rather than fragile.

Sakura’s shoulders loosen at once. She tips her head into the touch with a shy little smile, then shifts the tea aside to make room.

Mercedes lowers herself beside Sakura, close enough to share the warmth of the lamp and the steam from the cup. The cabin stays hushed, the rain tapping softly at the walls.

Sakura turns the cup slowly in both hands, then looks up at Mercedes with open, expectant eyes.

Sakura looks down at her tea, smiling into the steam, then glances back up with a softness that seems to settle the whole cabin.

Sakura glances toward the doorway, then back to Mercedes Machina, calmer now, as if the evening has finally found its shape.

Mercedes shifts closer to Sakura, keeping her shoulder near the girl’s chair as the adults begin to drift back from the table.

Porsche pauses at the doorway, then eases one step farther out, giving the table one last glance before yielding space.

The last of the tea steam sinks low between the cups as the doorway clears, leaving Sakura and Mercedes in a small island of lamplight.
