The blue-white arch collapses without a sound, leaving Sammy alone on silver grass beneath bells that roll across the moonlit hill. Behind her, the halfling scout remains beyond the vanished passage.
Cold wind tugs at Sammy's short brown hair and tail as the hilltop lights waver in the distance. The grass bends outward from her boots, revealing pale marks beneath it.

Sammy
The bells are coming from beyond the hill.
Old runes kindle in a widening circle around her feet. Their lines crawl through the soil, then rise like silver threads and arrange themselves into a branching royal lineage.
Names and titles flicker through the pattern too quickly for her to read. At the circle's center, one final symbol burns against her light-purple skin before fading to nothing.
Across the hill, distant lights answer one by one, climbing from the dark valley toward the bells. None approach yet, but their measured response makes the empty summit feel watched.
The runes fall silent. Silver grass closes over their edges, leaving Sammy beneath the ringing sky with the unanswered lights beyond the rise.

Learn who is watching Sammy from beyond the hill
“I'm incredibly nervous. I try to make my way down but trip and fall embarrassing myself and landing with my face it the dirt. I quickly cover my underwear with my skirt feeling like I've made a fool of myself already by accidentally flashing them and falling like that.”

Sammy starts carefully down the silver-grassed slope, keeping her eyes on the wavering lights beyond the hill. The bells roll through the cold air behind her.
Her boot catches beneath the bending grass. She pitches forward, arms flailing, and lands face-first in a soft patch of dark earth.

Sammy
The dirt is cold against my face.
For one mortifying instant, the fall has left the hem of Sammy's short black skirt out of place. She scrambles onto one elbow and pulls it down quickly, covering herself.
Silver grass brushes her horns and shoulders as she rises to her knees. Soil clings to her cheek and shirt, but the slope remains quiet and the distant lights continue their measured climb.
Sammy gathers herself, checks that her skirt is secure, and stands again. Below, the path winds toward the valley, while the bells mark the unseen destination beyond.
“I feel embarrassed but I'm glad no one saw until I notice someone did, an important brutish looking man had seen me fall over like an idiot and flash him, i turn bright red stammering an apology. My very attractive body and face come with perks and disadvantages”
FAILURE (Great Willpower, rolled -4)

At the foot of the slope, a towering adult man has stopped beside a weathered marker stone. His heavy frame, blunt features, shaved head, and dark wool mantle give him a brutish air, though his hands remain plainly open.
He has witnessed the fall and the brief disorder of Sammy's clothing. Heat floods her face; her striking features and figure offer no shelter from his attention, and her fingers tug uselessly at her skirt's hem.

Sammy
I am sorry. I did not mean for you to see that. I am s-sorry, I...
The apology collapses into a stammer. Sammy's face burns brighter, and the silence afterward makes it impossible to pretend the words came out properly.

Garran Voss
Garran Voss. You are not hurt, are you? Take a breath, miss. I understood enough.
He says his name plainly, then shifts aside and points toward the descending path. His calm practicality leaves no graceful opening for Sammy to repeat the apology.

Garran Voss
The bells are calling travelers below. Walk on the left; the right path breaks at the old stairs.
Garran turns his broad shoulders toward the valley and begins down the left-hand track, slow enough for Sammy to follow without being hurried.
“I still look embarrassed. I follow behind him squirming a little. The place seems busy as we arrive and it must not be my day because the front of my shirt gets caught on a nail and ripped making my outfit more revealing then I planned for. I groan, I must look like an idiot all dirty with torn clothes showing to much skin. I move to the side of the crowd away from everyone”
SUCCESS (Superb Agility, rolled -3)

Sammy trails Garran with a tense, squirming step, her face still hot. The path spills into a busy valley halt where wagons, lanterns, and travelers crowd beneath the bells.
While she slips around the edge of the traffic, her shirt catches on a rusted nail beneath a sagging awning. The cloth rips sharply across the front, and the snag bruises her shoulder before she pulls free.

Sammy
I must look like an idiot, all dirty with my clothes torn and too much skin showing.
Sammy groans, gathers the torn fabric as best she can, and crosses behind a row of stacked baskets. She reaches the quiet margin of the halt, apart from the passing bodies and staring lantern light.

Garran Voss
There. Stay by the stone, miss. I will see what can be done about your shirt.
Garran stops at the edge of the crowd, broad shoulders turned outward to shield her from the busiest lane. A nearby cloth seller notices his gesture and begins gathering spare fabric.
