The narrow boat floats within the stabilized blue ward, its runes humming softly. Caelan remains beside the hull, his new tail drifting beneath him as the eastern channel opens ahead.
Caelan Veyr
This clasp belonged to the Tidebound Crown before exile stripped me of everything but its duty. I carried it because I could not abandon that promise.
He presses one hand to the hull. Faint whispers travel through the boards, threading around his oath-mark and fading whenever the ward brightens.
Caelan Veyr
I swore to guide the surviving court beyond the drowned gate, though I no longer know who waits there. My enemies made certain that uncertainty followed me.
Caelan Veyr
The bond answers Niko more readily than it answers my own bloodline.
Caelan Veyr
I stayed behind while the others fled through the coast road. No escort accompanies me now, only you, this boat, and the oath I placed in your hands.
The whispers gather beneath the hull, too indistinct to form words. Ahead, the eastern channel narrows between black reefs, while Caelan waits for Niko to choose their passage.

“"By becoming a merman, your no longer bind by the kingdom that forsaken you. The magic of our pact eclipsed any previous oath." *I caress Caelan cheek with an expression filled with longing.*”
SUCCESS (Superb Diplomacy, rolled -2)
Niko
By becoming a merman, you are no longer bound by the kingdom that forsook you. The magic of our pact eclipsed any previous oath.
Niko reaches across the narrow gap and caresses Caelan Veyr’s cheek, his expression filled with longing. The ward-light gathers softly around their joined magic.
Caelan Veyr
He is not merely comforting me. He is naming my freedom, and asking me to believe it.
Caelan Veyr
Then the crown’s oath is ended. Yours stands above it now, not as a chain, but as the promise I chose.
The black reefs answer with a low resonance. Caelan Veyr’s oath-mark dims to silver, while the pact’s blue light settles visibly over it.
Caelan Veyr
I accept this truth, Niko. But understand the cost: before the drowned gate, I will name you as the keeper of my oath.
Caelan Veyr
If the surviving court hears that, they may follow you instead of me. Guide us through the channel, and let them learn whom I now serve.

“*Using magic, i light a pathway in the water toward the drowned gate. Then i take his hand and give him a charming smile.* "Let's swim my prince. I'm sure you eager to try your new fins."”
SUCCESS (Superb Magic, rolled -3)
Niko lifts his free hand, and blue-white fire unfurls beneath the water in a luminous trail. It winds between the black reefs, marking a clear passage toward the drowned gate.
Caelan Veyr
A road of sea-fire. You make the deep remember where it wishes to lead us.
The spell answers beautifully, but its cost is immediate: the light draws a measured thread of power from Niko’s pact, leaving the blue mark over Caelan’s oath dimmer.
Niko takes Caelan’s hand and offers him a charming smile. Their joined fingers pass through the cold current as the glowing path brightens ahead.
Niko
Let’s swim, my prince. I’m sure you’re eager to try your new fins.
Caelan Veyr
Gladly. Though if I disgrace myself, I shall blame the sorcerer who gave me a tail before lessons.
Caelan dives beside him, his blue-green tail finding its rhythm after a few powerful strokes. Together they follow the shining channel toward the drowned gate, while the reefs hum in recognition.
“"You know, it will be less cumbersome for you to swim if you remove that armour. Do you see me wearing anything?"”
SUCCESS (Superb Diplomacy, rolled -2)
Niko
You know, it will be less cumbersome if you remove that armour. Do you see me wearing anything?
Caelan Veyr glances toward Niko’s bare chest, then laughs softly. He swims back to the boat, hooks one arm over the gunwale, and begins loosening the straps of his travel-worn armor.
Caelan Veyr
A pointed lesson, my sea-witch. Very well. I will not ask you to bear a burden I refuse to set aside.
Piece by piece, Caelan Veyr removes the armor and secures it beneath the boat’s forward bench, leaving only his clothes and the silver-lit oath-mark against his skin.
Freed of the weight, his blue-green tail cuts the water with easy strength. The fire-trail ahead bends between the reefs, and Caelan Veyr surges after it.
Caelan Veyr
You have won this concession, Niko, but you have also earned my candid word before the court. I will name you as my keeper publicly.
Caelan Veyr
He makes obedience sound like trust, and trust is more dangerous to refuse.
“*We swim deeper into the sea as we make our way toward the gate. The two of us laugh as we enjoy each others. In my heart, i realize that i was falling for Caelan.*”
SUCCESS (Great Agility, rolled -1)
Niko and Caelan dive beneath the fire-trail, descending through clear blue depths where silver fish scatter around the glowing current. Their laughter bubbles freely between them.
Caelan Veyr
You swim like a sorcerer who has never once feared looking graceful.
Caelan twists through the water in answer, his blue-green tail sweeping close enough to stir Niko’s hair. Niko matches the maneuver, and they emerge laughing together.
Niko
I am falling for Caelan.
Caelan Veyr
There. The drowned gate. I expected ancient stone and solemn silence, not an escort led by sea-fire and laughter.
The channel opens into a vast submerged archway, its coral-veined pillars rising from the seabed. The luminous trail passes beneath it, and the gate answers with a deep, welcoming chime.
Caelan Veyr
Come, Niko. Let us cross together, and meet whoever still waits beyond.
