Second Squad, load into the lead truck. George, get them formed behind the convoy. We move the instant that gate opens.
Drivers, adult human men and women in dusty military work clothes and helmets, lean from their cabs, watching the dark road. Sandbags shudder as distant impacts strike the outer fence, and rifles rise along the checkpoint line.

Rescued Marines are moving to the trucks. The service road is clear for now, though movement is building beyond the depot.
Dunn waves the convoy drivers into staggered positions while Marines unlock the barrier mechanism. Ella and two Marines, adult human men in worn olive-drab uniforms, tactical vests, and combat boots, remain outside, covering the approach.
