The Finely Robed Herald

Cole remains beneath the gray sky with Crimson Redemption raised. Road markings crawl across the earth, rewriting themselves toward home, while the finely robed herald stands several paces behind him.

Beyond the empty horizon, the heartlands emerge as a silent expanse of ruined roads and extinguished banners. Elaris remains far behind at the shrine, guarding the passage he left sealed.

A sealed gate still stands where the vanished dominion’s authority once held the land together. Around it, seven freed spirits hover in pale, wavering silhouettes, unable to cross its threshold.

They are free, but freedom has left them at a door with no keeper and no road beyond it.

The spirits turn toward Cole as one. Their mouths open without breath, and the gate answers with a low note that trembles through the ruined road.

Reaper, you severed the chain. What carries us onward now?

The consequence is not punishment, Cole Covenhelm. You erased the structure that held them, and someone must decide what comes after.

Guide the freed spirits into rest

“*Cole sighed, exasperated, giving the Herald a semi-annoyed glance.* "Look, dickhead. I appreciated you for your one-way, generic ass, quick-time quest, but I don't think it's clocking to you who I am, What I do, and My title. I am the legendary Celestial Reaper. It's my job to guide souls to their resting place, into the next realm. No shit someone must decide what comes after."”

Look, dickhead. I appreciated your one-way, generic-ass quick-time quest, but it clearly isn't clocking who I am, what I do, or my title. I am the legendary Celestial Reaper. Guiding souls to their resting place, into the next realm, is my job. No shit someone must decide what comes after.

Cole sighs and gives the finely robed herald a semi-annoyed glance. His hatred of officials and generic heroes sharpens the insult, while cocky arrogance makes his authority sound like an obvious fact.

Arcane Heritage steadies the force behind his words, and the Chosen One's mark makes them carry across the ruined heartlands. Thronebreaker's Resolve turns the claim from boasting into a command the freed spirits recognize.

The pale spirits bow toward Cole. Their wavering forms gather around him instead of the sealed gate, and the low note in its stone fades beneath a warmer, rising chime.

Then guide us, Celestial Reaper. We accept your passage beyond this broken threshold.

The finely robed herald's composure finally breaks. He lowers his hand, steps back from the spirits, and faces Cole without the posture of a court messenger addressing a disposable weapon.

I understand now, Celestial Reaper. The decision is yours. Lead them onward, and I will not presume to name what comes after.

Behind Cole, a pale road opens through the gate without resistance. Seven freed spirits drift into formation at his back, awaiting his guidance as the ruined heartlands fall silent.

“*Cole once again, folded his hands into his pockets, Demonic Ether-Hands erupting out of his sides, gripping the edges of the Soul-Realm open, as he stepped aside, ushering the Spirits into the Realm/Pocket-Dimension Summon.* "Be free, O Woeful, Lost Spirits. For the Reaper has come to guide thee. Ashes to Dust, Crackles to Fate, Nightfalls of Dust, shall bring you back to Fate."”

SUCCESS (Superb Magic, rolled +1)

Cole folds his hands into his pockets. Demonic Ether-Hands erupt from his sides, seize the edges of the Soul-Realm, and pull it open as he steps aside.

Be free, O Woeful, Lost Spirits. For the Reaper has come to guide thee. Ashes to Dust, Crackles to Fate, Nightfalls of Dust, shall bring you back to Fate.

Cocky arrogance makes the portal flare wider than necessary, but Arcane Heritage gives the ether-hands ancient shape. Crimson Redemption anchors the opening, while the Chosen One's mark and Thronebreaker's Resolve command its destination.

The seven spirits drift through the threshold together. Their pale forms shed the last traces of bondage, becoming quiet motes of ash and starlight within the vast Soul-Realm.

The Freed Spirits

The Freed Spirits

We are free, Celestial Reaper. Your guidance carries us beyond sorrow.

The Soul-Realm receives them without resistance, unfolding distant shores beneath a gentle dusk. Each spirit finds a path of its own, and the seven vanish into peaceful radiance.

The Ether-Hands release the realm's edges, and the portal closes into a warm spark before Cole. The ruined road is empty now, save for the herald's lowered gaze and the silence after liberation.
