Sin arrives at a bridge under repair. Broken planks leave only a narrow crossing above the dark water, while ropes hang loose between unfinished posts.

A young adult woman stands among scattered saws, mallets, and coils of rope. Her weathered green cloak hangs over a brown tunic, and a crooked iron charm marks her as a hedge wizard.

Wolves circle both banks, gray bodies slipping through reeds and shadow. Their formation tightens as their yellow eyes follow Sin onto the approach.

Stop there. The pack will not leave until a promise kept to the dead is fulfilled.

The wizard raises one hand, though her fingers tremble around a splintered wand. Across the river, a wolf steps onto the mud and bares its teeth.

They guarded the crossing before the flood took the old keeper. Someone swore to finish what he began.

One by one, the wolves turn from the bridge and face Sin. The narrow crossing creaks in the wind, offering no easy retreat and no wider path forward.

✓ Quest Accepted

Fulfill the promise to the dead keeper

“I keep my hands visible and face the wolves without stepping onto the bridge.”

Sin stops before the first broken plank, keeping both hands clearly visible. His white tails remain still as he turns fully toward the wolves.

The pack holds its ground across the muddy banks. Wind moves through the reeds, carrying the river’s cold breath beneath the unfinished bridge.

The wolves are watching my hands, not the crossing.

Good. They understand a pause better than a threat.

The nearest wolf lowers its head slightly, though its gaze stays fixed on Sin. Its claws settle into the damp earth instead of advancing.

Stand as you are, kitsune. Let the dead see you came without breaking faith.

“Slowly get down on one knee, not submitting but not aggessivly, like inviting them and saying I'm freindlt”

Sin slowly lowers himself onto one knee before the nearest wolf. He keeps his hands visible and his posture open, neither bowing nor reaching for a weapon.

The wolf watches the measured movement without retreating. Its ears lift, and the tension along its shoulders eases as the invitation settles into the quiet.

There. That is how one greets guardians, not obstacles.

A second wolf, an adult, gender-indeterminate wolf with russet-and-gray fur, dark eyes, a lean build, and a nicked left ear steps from the reeds and approaches the muddy bank. It stops within sight of Sin, head lowered, its breath pale in the river air.

They know the difference between surrender and peace. Hold steady, kitsune.

The pack’s circle loosens. Several wolves turn toward the unfinished bridge, then back to Sin, as though presenting the crossing and its unkept duty for his acceptance.

The dead keeper’s promise has found a willing witness. The bridge will let you pass, if you honor what waits beyond it.

“Accept what waits and thank the wolfs for their time, patients and give them some food as a peace treaty”

Sin bows his head toward the wolves and the unfinished bridge, accepting the duty waiting beyond. He touches one hand to his chest, then opens it toward the guardians in thanks.

He checks the pouch at his belt for food, but finds only dust and a loose thread. Nothing can be offered, and his open palm remains empty.

The russet-and-gray wolf’s ears flatten. Its gaze drops to the empty hand, then rises to Sin’s face as a low warning rolls through the pack.

Careful, kitsune. A promise without a gift may sound like another promise abandoned.

The wolves tighten their circle again. The nearest turns sharply toward the bridge, and its hindquarters brush a hanging rope, pulling the unfinished span crooked.

There is no food in the pouch.

A plank drops sideways with a harsh crack and wedges against the bank. The crossing remains visible, but the safest route is now obstructed beneath the wolves’ watchful eyes.

SUCCESS (Great Willpower, rolled +1)

Sin remains kneeling and bows again to the pack, accepting the duty beyond the bridge. He opens his empty pouch, then looks toward the hedge wizard.

Thank you for your patience. Accept this as peace between us.

The hedge wizard hesitates, then draws two hard biscuits from a pocket inside her green cloak. She places them in Sin’s open palm, surrendering her travel ration.

Spend them wisely, kitsune. The dead have little use for hunger, but the living remember kindness.

Sin sets the biscuits on the muddy bank and withdraws his hand. A jagged plank catches his sleeve as he shifts back, scratching his forearm through the cloth.

The russet-and-gray wolf approaches, sniffs the offering, and takes one biscuit. The pack’s warning growl fades into quiet chewing and rustling reeds.

The wolves part from the crossing. The crooked rope settles, and the obstructing plank lies clear enough for passage while the guardians watch in solemn silence.
