The palm-doorway bears Sahira across the desert and drops her at the shrine’s threshold. Behind her, the saloon and its three watchers remain beyond the closing dark.
The red light gutters out. Sand pours from beneath the three leaning stones, hissing over the sealed door and swallowing the last trace of the road.
Beside the threshold, a long jointed hand, the hand of an inhuman being with knotted knuckles and pale scars thrusts from the sand. Its black fingers bear tarnished rings, each stamped with the same hooked mark as the coin.

The Hand Below
Bearer. Do not close the road. I have climbed through older names than yours.
The coin turns cold in Sahira’s grasp for the first time. Beneath the sand, something pulses upward, and the sealed shrine door gives a dull answering knock.

The Hand Below
Each beat of the coin lifts me. When the fifth comes, the door will remember how to open.
A second joint breaks the surface beside the first, dragging a ringed wrist into moonlight. The coin pulses again, cold as deep water, while the shrine waits for Sahira’s next act.
