Lanterns of blue witchfire drift above the crowded hall as lyric and Angelass kiss on the enchanted dance floor, turning slowly with the music.
Angelass is a young adult elven woman, with pointed ears and warm brown skin with a curvy figure, dark green robes layered like leaves, and sparkling green eyes beneath copper-brown hair braided with tiny flowers.
Angelass
The moon has blessed this night, my love.
Her fingers rest lightly against lyric's shoulder while the musicians weave harp and flute through a melody that makes the floor glow beneath their feet.
Angelass
Stay with me for one more song before the world remembers how loudly it calls for us.
Around them, masked revelers turn in silver and crimson finery. Beyond the open arches, moonlit gardens stir under a wind that carries the scent of rain.

lyric
We have danced long enough. Give me the stage, and one song for you.
Lyric steps from the enchanted floor and climbs the small moonstone dais. He draws out his lute as the musicians yield, their melody dissolving into expectant silence.
lyric
The lute’s familiar weight steadies my hands.
His fingers find the strings, and the love song he wrote for Angelass unfurls through the hall, warm as candlelight and bright as rain on leaves.
Angelass
Lyric, you wrote this for me?
The final chord shimmers across the rafters. Applause rises from every masked corner, loud enough to draw curious faces from the garden arches and stir a painful rasp in lyric’s throat.
Angelass
Then let the whole moonlit hall hear how dearly you have spoken.
