Shiro enters Veranoir’s temple beneath vaulted stone and painted saints, Mara Vey at her side with the sealed parchment. The road guard remains outside, his protection acknowledged by the gate attendants.
Five temple attendants gather around the sanctuary threshold. A perceptive priestess steps through them, an adult woman in white-and-gold robes, with dark braided hair, keen gray eyes, and a sunburst pendant.

Mara Vey
The seal is genuine. She is the chosen hero recorded in the ledger, and she has immediate passage.

Sister Elian
I am Sister Elian. Hold still, chosen one. Your body carries a carefully maintained shapeshifting strain.
Elian, a lean adult woman with warm brown skin and a narrow, angular face, touches two fingers to the radiant mark. Sacred light unwinds the borrowed human shape, revealing Shiro’s purple skin, cyan hair, horns, and heart-tipped tail before the attendants.

Sister Elian
A succubus. By the Light, then let the goddess’s mark be tested against what you are.
Elian invokes a demon-killing prayer. A spear of white radiance strikes Shiro and disappears without pain, scorch, or resistance. The attendants recoil, while Mara tightens her grip on the parchment.

Sister Elian
The spell recognized a demon, yet the goddess’s choosing mark forbade it. Chosen hero, what are you?

Shiro
A goddess chose me, I guess. A demon chosen by the goddess.
Shiro scratches the back of her head, horns angled beneath the painted saints. The admission hangs softly in the sanctuary, strangely plain after the blinding prayer.

Sister Elian
Yes. A demon by nature, and the goddess’s chosen by undeniable proof. Those truths are not opposed here.
The five temple attendants exchange frightened glances, but none reaches for a weapon. The white radiance around Shiro’s hand steadies, bright and warm against her purple skin.

Mara Vey
Then the mark has answered the question plainly. She is not pretending to be a hero. She is one, even in a demon’s body.

Sister Elian
I believe you, Shiro. The temple will record your nature without hiding it, and I will present you to the high clergy as the goddess’s demon champion.

The admission should settle the sanctuary, but Shiro’s voice has left a tremor in the painted silence. Her radiant mark suddenly flares, and nearby candles gutter blue.

Sister Elian
Do not force yourself to sound certain. The mark responds to truth, not performance.
The flare spills across the sanctuary floor in a crown-shaped pattern. The attendants retreat behind Elian, their fear no longer hidden by ceremony, while Mara keeps the sealed parchment pressed to her chest.

Mara Vey
You heard her. She did not deny either half of it. That should be enough for the record.

Sister Elian
Enough for the record, yes. Not yet enough for the sanctuary. We will move this conversation to the high chapel before panic turns into accusation.
Elian turns toward the inner doors and raises one hand. The attendants part reluctantly, revealing a narrow passage of gold-lit stone. No one reaches for a weapon, but every gaze follows Shiro’s horns.

Sister Elian
Walk beside me, Shiro. Let the clergy hear the goddess’s choice from your own mouth, before anyone decides what your silence means.
