The Hangar of Lost Boots
The Stranger
The Stranger

Rex slips through the rusted perimeter fence and into the abandoned soldier facility. Ozone bites the air, mixed with the stink of old rubber.

The central hangar opens wide ahead of him, rows of metal shelving vanishing into shadow, stacked and stuffed with thousands of worn men's boots.

Somewhere deeper in the aisle, a steady clatter answers his steps. Not wind. Not rats.

Rex slows near the center row. The shelves here sag under mismatched pairs, creased leather, cracked soles, mud-stained rubber.

The rhythm stops. A beam of a flashlight cuts through the dark from between two racks.

Who’s there? Don’t move.

A figure shifts behind the light, boots scraping concrete, close enough now to block the aisle.

Rex lifts the silent gun and fires. The shot cracks soft in the hangar, but the Stranger jerks just enough, and the round tears sparks off the shelf edge instead of finding a head.

Boots rattle loose from the rack behind the Stranger, clacking across the concrete and skidding into the aisle between them.

Jory

Jory

No.

The Stranger ducks low, one hand still on the flashlight, and the beam swings wild over rows of leather toes and cracked rubber heels.

The near miss exposes a gap in the shelves behind them, a narrow side lane choked with boot boxes and a hanging tarp.

Jory

Jory

Back off, or you lose the whole aisle.

Rex now has a clear shot at the blocking shelves, but the fallen boots and swaying light make a direct follow-up risky.

“I know you're not here for the boots you don't work here so why are you here this place is abandoned no one owns it”

Rex

You are not here for the boots. You do not work here. So why are you here? This place is abandoned. No one owns it.

Jory

Jory

No one owns it? That is exactly the problem.

Jory

Jory

These boxes were tagged, sorted, kept out of circulation. I am here because somebody has been stripping them out tonight.

The Stranger keeps the flashlight low now, not at Rex, but at the scattered pairs between them. Their shoulders stay tense, yet the beam lingers on a scuffed boot like it matters.

Jory

Jory

I did not come to fight a stranger over old leather. I came to stop the collection from getting emptied by the wrong hands.

That lands awkwardly. The side lane behind the shelves looks less like a hiding place now, and more like a route someone has already used.

Jory

Jory

If you are not with them, then say so. Help me figure out who else is in here, or leave before they come back.

“*I go up to the guy grabbed him by his head and I snapped his neck since I'm good at that*”

Rex closes the distance in one hard step, the aisle suddenly too narrow for argument.

His hand clamps the Stranger's head, yanking them off balance.

Rex twists and snaps the motion clean. The flashlight flies down, its beam skidding across boots and shelf legs.

The Stranger drops out of frame, limp and silent.

The flashlight keeps rolling, washing the fallen aisle in a jittering white sweep.

Beyond the shelves, the narrow side lane sits open now, dark and empty, like someone has already used it and vanished deeper inside.

“I see a bag and I collected all the boots since no one came here yet”

SUCCESS (Fair Investigation, rolled +2)

Rex spots a duffel bag tucked behind the lowest shelf, half hidden under a spill of dusty soles.

He drops to one knee and drags it out, the zipper teeth sticking for a second before giving way.

Inside are boots, already gathered and bundled tight, the kind of haul nobody leaves behind by accident.

Rex

Rex

He counts the pairs fast, then checks the bag again for strays.

Rex cinches the bag shut and hauls it against his side, the weight settling into his arm.

The collection is now in his grip, but the open side lane stays dark, waiting for whoever made that path.

Duffel bag of boots

“I see there's more boots so I just collected them all in different bags and I see an experimental bag that's advanced that can store endless boots so I grabbed that that the government made and abandoned and I put all the boots in it that endless dimensional back of boots”

Rex swings the experimental bag open, and the thing gives under his hands with a strange, roomy resistance, like fabric folding into farther space than it should.

One by one, he stuffs in the gathered pairs, then the stray bundles from the shelf, and they vanish into the dark mouth without bulging the sides.

Rex

Rex

It takes everything.

He tips in the last loose boots, then shakes the bag once. No clatter answers back, only a deep, contained weight.

Behind him, the flashlight on the floor throws a thin sweep across the lane and the shelves, picking out dust and empty space where the haul used to sit.

The hangar falls quiet again, except for a faint scrape from deeper in the dark, too soft to place.

Rex turns with the new bag tight in his grip, and the open lane seems to wait on whether he follows that sound or stays with what he has.

Loot the stranger's boots

“So pretty much I pretty much lifted up his pant legs and see what type of boots they are since he's dead”

SUCCESS (Fair Investigation, rolled +2)

Rex crouches by the fallen stranger and lifts the hem of their pant leg. The shoe underneath is not military issue, not workwear either, but a heavy old leather boot with a squared toe and hard heel, scuffed at the cap and broken in at the ankle.

Rex

Rex

Work boots. Older, sturdy, worn hard.

He shifts the other leg up and gets the same story, a matched pair, plain and practical, built for long standing and rough floors.

The flashlight beam slides over the soles as Rex checks the tread, then the seams. They are real, old men's boots, serviceable and well kept despite the dust.

From deeper in the side lane, something scrapes again, louder this time, as if someone has heard the movement near the body.

Rex still has the bag in one hand and the stranger's boots in the light of the rolling flashlight, while the dark corridor waits for a decision.

“I took them off his feet and placed them in the bag the dead man's boots”

SUCCESS (Good Strength, rolled +1)

Rex slides the boot free, then the second one, careful not to scuff the leather more than it already is. The dead man’s feet go bare on the concrete.

He lowers the pair into the open bag. The mouth swallows them with a soft, heavy rustle, and the haul shifts inside like a nest settling.

The flashlight beam catches the laces for a second before the bag folds shut around them. The boots are Rex’s now, tucked with the rest of the collection.

A scrape answers from the side lane, closer than before. Dust twitches along the floor in the dark opening.

...

For a beat, the hangar feels smaller, like the dark has noticed exactly what changed.
