The violet security fields hum with a jagged, irregular frequency, throwing long, pulsing shadows against the walls of the detention block. A broken spider-drone lies twisted against the cold metal plating, its internal circuitry sparking rhythmically.

Warden
I don't care who you are, back off! I have orders from the Syndicate to secure this asset.

Jack Slay
The Warden is trembling, his hands shaking as he pivots his sidearm between me and the ceiling speakers. He thinks he is still in control.
Drop the transmitter, Warden. Your contract with the Syndicate is terminated. My team is already in the vents, and we don't like loose ends.
The heavy reinforced door at the far end of the corridor begins to slide open with a hiss of pressurized air. A silhouette emerges, clad in pristine, reinforced tactical armor that stands in stark contrast to the grime of the detention block. Zoya raises a heavy pulse rifle, her aim locked squarely on the Warden.

Survive the Syndicate ambush
“Wait, aren't they both syndicate? And where the hell is the rest of Security?”
FAILURE (Great Perception, rolled -2)

Jack Slay
My head is spinning. If Zoya is here for the Warden, then the entire station security structure is a shell game. I don't see any of our backup teams. This isn't a rescue. This is a liquidation.

Warden
You think you can just march in here and call the shots? I have the clearance!
The Warden spins toward Zoya, his boots skidding on the slick floor. He forgets I am standing right behind him, his weapon hand swinging wildly as he prepares to fire at the newcomer. In his panicked haste, he trips over the jagged metal remains of the spider-drone. His sidearm discharges into the ceiling, showering the detention block in sparks and molten debris. Zoya does not flinch. She adjusts her aim, her finger tightening on the trigger of her rifle as the air in the room thickens with the ozone scent of impending violence.

Officer Zoya
Goodbye, Warden.
“*Knock the warden out of the way, you need him alive so NT can interrogate him later*”
SUCCESS (Superb Strength, rolled +1)

Jack Slay drives his shoulder into the Warden’s ribs and shoves him sideways, hard enough to break the man’s aim.
The Warden hits the deck with a grunt, his sidearm skittering across the intake floor and coming to rest under a sparking panel.
A fresh burst of ceiling debris rains down between Jack Slay and the Syndicate team, turning the open doorway into a shower of light and smoke.

Officer Zoya
Move on him. Now.
Zoya’s rifle stays trained on the fallen Warden while her team shifts in behind her, weapons up, reading the room for the next target.
The Warden claws at the floor, dazed but alive, and Jack Slay’s shove leaves him pinned between the sparks and the incoming guns.

Warden
Slay, stand down, they will kill us all.
