Beneath the waterfall, Kei meditates as cold spray beads on her training wraps. Sakura petals drift through the mist, bright against the hidden village beyond.

A masked young adult man steps from behind the falling water. Lean and poised, he wears dark layered travel cloth, a gray half-mask, and a red cord at his wrist.

He raises a small mission token, its surface carved with the unmistakable seal of Kei's father. Water runs over the mark without blurring it.

Before he can explain, alarm calls erupt from the village, sharp and repeated beneath the thunder of water. The challenger turns toward the distant rooftops.

The masked challenger lowers the mission token as alarm bells continue across Sakura Blossom Village. His attention stays fixed on Kei, not the rooftops.

The carved seal catches a gray shaft of daylight. Beneath it, a second mark has been scratched into the token's edge, a branch-family sign.

From the village, a rooftop signal changes twice, then vanishes behind the mist. The masked challenger's hand closes around the token.

He extends the token toward Kei at last, while the waterfall's thunder swallows the next alarm call. The mission's hidden purpose now has a familiar face.

Kei breaks from the waterfall and sprints toward Sakura Blossom Village, boots striking the slick path. Mist tears past her as alarm bells multiply across the rooftops.

The masked challenger remains beneath the falls, turning sharply toward the forest while Kei descends. He keeps the mission token in his hand, covering the branch-family mark.

Kei clears the final bend and reaches the village palisade. Two watch platforms stand empty, their signal flags hanging loose, while figures move between the lower roofs.

A young adult woman in dark shinobi layers drops from a tiled roof ahead, landing in a crouch beside the gate. Her face is hidden behind a pale cloth mask, and a red cord circles her wrist.

Kei drops beneath the palisade’s sightlines and circles along the muddy outer ditch, using rain-dark beams and drifting mist to mask her movement.

A loose stone rolls beneath her boot. She catches herself against the earth, but the brief scrape carries toward the masked shinobi by the gate.

Kei stays low and continues around the palisade while the shinobi scans the wrong stretch of ditch. The cost is clear: someone is now searching outside.

At a collapsed section behind stacked firewood, Kei slips through without disturbing the branches. She emerges inside Sakura Blossom Village, unseen, with the alarms rolling overhead.

Kei moves through the inner yard beneath the alarm bells, crossing between storehouses and drying racks. Fresh mud marks lead away from the compromised watchtower toward the village center.

At a shuttered rice hall, she spots two infiltrators below the eaves: a broad young adult man in brown guard layers, and a lean young adult woman in dark shinobi cloth. Both wear red cords at their wrists.

The pair kneels beside a concealed side door, passing a rolled village map between them. Beyond the slats, three bound watchmen sit alive and alert, their weapons removed.

Kei reaches the hall and identifies the infiltrators clearly, but a loose roof tile slips beneath her hand and crashes into the yard. Both figures snap their heads toward the sound, raising suspicion.

Kei launches from beneath the eaves before either infiltrator can reach the signal cord. Her shoulder drives the broad man into the wall, while her heel sweeps the woman's knees from beneath her.

The woman reaches for the rolled map, but Kei twists her wrist away and pins it against the packed earth. The map remains closed, and no signal leaves the hall.

He surges upright with a short elbow strike. Kei turns with it, catches his sleeve, and throws him across the threshold beside the shuttered rice hall.

The impact cracks another roof tile loose. It drops into the yard with a sharp report, and pain flares along Kei's scraped palm where she braced against the wall.

The infiltrator woman’s pinned wrist trembles, but her eyes stay fixed on the closed map. The broad man coughs beside the threshold and reaches for neither weapon nor signal cord.

Her admission cuts through the bell’s rhythm. The red cords were borrowed camouflage, and the branch-family sign was bait meant to turn suspicion toward Hanami.

Behind the shutters, one of the bound guards shifts against his restraints. From the village center, footsteps begin converging beneath the continuing alarm.

Kei releases the infiltrator woman’s wrist, strips the cord from her hand, and drives a precise palm strike into the broad man’s shoulder, pinning him against the rice hall wall.

Kei binds both infiltrators with their own cords, securing their wrists beneath the eaves. Their weapons remain untouched on the ground.

She slips through the shuttered hall and cuts the watchmen’s restraints, freeing three young adult men in blue-gray watch uniforms, lean and rain-soaked, with close-cropped hair and bruised wrists with a fallen blade. One guard rubs his wrists while the others rise, shaken but unharmed.

The freed watchmen reclaim their weapons and surround the captives. Outside, converging footsteps slow as the guards find the hall secured and the infiltrators stopped.

The freed watchmen tighten their circle. Kei’s question settles over the rice hall while rain taps against the shuttered doors and the captives exchange a wary glance.

One freed guard steps forward, face tightening as he studies Kei. The captives’ admission raises a new suspicion: someone inside the watch knew her father’s mission and schedule.

A sharp ache returns across Kei’s scraped palm as she flexes it. The captives have given her the name, the method, and the connection to the eastern post, but the guards now watch her for what she will do with that knowledge.
