Adopt an NPC as Your Next Hero
The characters your tale invents can now become heroes of their own. Click an NPC in your tale, read the character sheet the story wrote for them, and adopt them into your heroes, stats, portrait, and world included. One condition: you have to know their name.

Have you ever wanted to play the other side?
Every tale fills up with people the storyteller invented on the spot: the salvager who sold you parts in scene two, the rival who kept showing up, the companion who fought beside you for ten scenes. Until now they lived only inside that one tale. You could retype them into the character wizard by hand, but you'd lose everything the story had made of them.
Now you can adopt them. Click any NPC pill in your tale, on the scene image, in the narration, or in the Scene Archive, and the card that opens has an Adopt as hero button. One click reads their story, and a moment later you're looking at a complete character sheet. Adopt it, and they join your heroes, ready to start a tale of their own.
Adopting costs half a Page, the same as the wizard's first step. The preview is free.
The sheet is written from your story

The character sheet is derived from what actually happened in your tale: the role the character played, what they wanted, the scenes they were part of, and, if they ever fought, the Strength and Health the story fought them with. Those two numbers are kept exactly as played, and the sheet marks them as fight-tested.
Skills, gifts, and faults come from the genre's own lists, and you can edit any of it afterwards on the hero's sheet, the way you would with any hero.
Two more things come along with the sheet. The new hero shares your hero's Lore Book, so the world they step into is the world they came from. If your hero has no Lore Book, one is written from the tale itself: the places you visited, the people you met, and the story so far. And your original hero becomes a character in that book. Depending on how the tale went, they may even be listed as the new hero's nemesis.
Characters from your Lore Book count too

Characters you designed in your Lore Book can be adopted as well, with one difference: you can't adopt them straight from the book. They have to appear in a tale first, and be alive in it. A Lore Book entry is a description; a tale is where they come alive. Once the story has put your character on stage, the Adopt button appears on their pill like anyone else's.
Curtain call at the end of each chapter

When a chapter concludes, the tale takes a curtain call. Below the ending you'll find every character who appeared in the chapter, side by side. If you never clicked their pill while the story was moving, this is where you catch them. Anyone already adopted shows a small bookmark; anyone whose name you never learned sits this one out.
Where adopted heroes can go
An adopted hero is yours. Start a new tale with them, edit their sheet, regenerate their portrait, list them in the Tavern once they've completed a quest, all as usual.
So the next time a character steals a scene, take them with you. Their story doesn't have to end when yours does.
