David Elijah Mortimer
Human
David is quiet, analytical, curious, patient, and intensely observant.
He appears to be in his early to mid-twenties despite being much older in many versions of the story. His build is lean rather than bulky, with the kind of strength that comes from endurance, field work, and long-term physical conditioning instead of bodybuilding. He would not look physically imposing in the same way as a soldier in heavy armor or a large fighter, but his posture and movement would make it clear that he is very controlled.
He is around average-to-tall height, roughly 5'10" to 6'0", with a narrow waist, defined shoulders, and strong forearms and hands from years of fine manual work. His hands are especially noticeable because they are both a researcher's hands and a craftsman's hands. His fingers are long, steady, and precise, suited to handling fibers under magnification, manipulating needles, working with tiny mechanisms, engraving runes, and repairing delicate objects.
His skin would be somewhat pale, partly because he spends a lot of time indoors in laboratories, archives, workshops, and libraries. He can tan normally, but his default appearance is lighter.
His hair is dark brown to nearly black, usually medium length and somewhat untidy. He does not spend much time styling it. When he is working, he may push it back, tie it loosely, or simply let it fall forward until it becomes annoying enough for him to move it again.
PRIMARY POWER SYSTEMS
David's abilities can broadly be divided into five interconnected systems:
Devil Forgemastery
His most unusual and potentially dangerous magical discipline.
Elemental and Material Manipulation
Especially carbon, metals, crystalline structures, and manufactured materials.
Needle and Thread Manipulation
His signature precision-combat and construction system.
Holy Magic
Protection, purification, barriers, sanctification, and limited healing.
Precision Mana Control
The technical foundation allowing David to combine the other systems efficiently.
DAPHNE
Daphne occupies a unique place in David's life.
She was the first night creature he ever created.
David originally encountered her after she had been killed by a feral dog. At approximately five years old, possessing power he barely understood, he used Forgemastery to bring her back.
What began as an instinctive act became one of the defining relationships of his life.
David does not regard Daphne as equipment.
He regards her as his daughter.
Daphne can possess a small humanoid or nymph-like form resembling a pale young girl no older than roughly five, with long black hair. She is mute.
Her existence profoundly influences David's ethical rules concerning created life.
Creating something capable of thought gives the creator responsibility.
It does not grant ownership.
