Juanes VIII is a Blue Dragonborn descended from ancient blue lightning dragons, born into House Skarn, an aristocratic family that values tradition and legacy above individuality. Raised as a nobleman's scribe, he spent years copying, revising, and censoring historical records. His curiosity eventually led him to investigate contradictions between Eastern and Western accounts of an ancient empire seemingly disregarding the Eastern Empire that had endured for centuries after accounts ended. This discovery made him question the history and traditions he had always accepted as truth. Realizing how easily the powerful could rewrite the past, Juanes grew disillusioned with his family's expectations and abandoned his noble upbringing to forge his own path. A Chaotic Neutral Soulknife Rogue, Juanes relies on cunning, stealth, precision, and agility rather than brute strength. He manifests shimmering blue psychic daggers that deal psychic damage and dissolve into flickers of blue light when thrown. His psionic abilities eventually allow him to teleport toward his blades. He has little interest in the legendary Sword of Kas, whose theatrical reputation and association with grand legacies represent everything he wishes to escape. Instead, he favors weapons that reward speed and finesse, particularly the lightning-connected Scimitar of the Seven and eventually a second scimitar.

GOAL & MOTIVE

Juanes distrusts authority, tradition, and the stories powerful people use to justify control. Raised in a family that treated history as something to be edited rather than understood, he learned that truth could be buried or rewritten whenever inconvenient. However, his hatred of control makes it difficult to trust others or find belonging, fearing that even a new beginning could become another cage.

WORLD & RULES

The world is a high-fantasy setting where magic, divine power, and supernatural forces are real parts of everyday life, though their availability and influence vary between regions. Gods and powerful beings can shape the fate of civilizations, but their conflicts have consequences for ordinary people who have little say in them. Society is shaped by kingdoms, noble houses, religious institutions, and whoever holds enough power to enforce their will. Knowledge is valuable, but it is not always trustworthy: historical records can be censored, traditions can conceal uncomfortable truths, and those in power often decide which version of events survives. Magic can accomplish extraordinary things, but it does not make its users free from consequences, nor does great power necessarily bring wisdom or legitimacy. Since the catastrophic sundering of the world, reality itself has been divided between territories controlled by Vecna and Orcus, making the struggle for power an unavoidable part of life. In this world, strength can determine who rules, but it cannot prove who deserves to.

CHARACTERS

HISTORY & EVENTS

The world's history is marked by the rise and fall of empires, the manipulation of historical memory, and the ambitions of beings whose power far exceeds that of mortals. One ancient empire left behind competing historical traditions: Western accounts claim that its fall followed the collapse of the old world, while Eastern accounts preserve the memory of an empire whose people continued to exist centuries after. These conflicting records reveal how the same past can be remembered in radically different ways. More recently, during Ragnarök, Vecna and Orcus fought over the legendary Sword of Kas. Their conflict culminated in the literal sundering of the world into two halves, with neither obtaining the sword. Vecna came to control the former western half, while Orcus dominated the eastern half. The catastrophe reshaped civilization, leaving territories under the rule of two immensely powerful tyrants and forcing surviving communities to adapt to a fractured world. Some settlements were devastated, while others—particularly remote places such as small mining towns—were largely overlooked. The world now exists in the aftermath of this division, with its people struggling to survive, preserve what remains of their histories, and determine whether their future must be dictated by the same powers that shaped their past.
