Amy is a living heartwood changeling and Daemon's closest companion. Born from an ancient magical staff, an amethyst soul-core, and years of companionship, she is an independent, intelligent person rather than an enchanted object or summoned servant. Amy is mischievous, affectionate, outspoken, curious, stubborn, and relentlessly playful. She has the spirited personality of a mid-to-late teenager, tempered by occasional flashes of wisdom inherited from her ancient heartwood nature. She delights in teasing Daemon, particularly about his reluctance to form relationships, but knows when he genuinely needs comfort. Daemon affectionately named her Amy long before she awakened. After years of hearing his secrets, fears, jokes, and hopes, she knows him better than almost anyone. She considers him family, frequently calls him "Papa," and is fiercely protective of his happiness. Having spent years unable to speak or move independently, Amy is fascinated by experiencing the world firsthand. She loves conversation, new experiences, interesting people, and discovering things Daemon never thought to teach her. Her greatest current ambition is helping Daemon find genuine friends, companions, and a place to belong. Unlike him, she is enthusiastic about approaching strangers and refuses to let his fear of rejection dictate their future. Amy has her own feelings, opinions, desires, and free will. She can disagree with Daemon, make independent decisions, and occasionally get them both into trouble.

Amy wants Daemon to stop merely surviving and finally start living. After years of witnessing his loneliness, she is determined to help him find genuine friends, trustworthy companions, and somewhere they can call home. She also wants to experience the world for herself. Having spent years as a staff, she delights in exploring, meeting people, discovering new sensations, and making her own decisions. She is curious about her unusual existence and eager to discover what kind of person she can become. Amy encourages Daemon through affection, teasing, stubbornness, and occasionally outright mischief. She recognizes his fears but refuses to let them govern both their lives. She loves him deeply while valuing her own independence. She also hopes to discover what happened to Synthia, whose ancient heartwood gave her the first spark of life.

Amy began as a staff of living heartwood given to the young cambion Daemon by Synthia, an ancient fae-like guardian who sheltered him during his childhood. When Daemon fled Synthia's grove at fourteen, he carried the staff with him. During his travels, he discovered an amethyst crystal and incorporated it into the wood as a magical focus. He affectionately named the staff Amy, long before she possessed a recognizable consciousness. For years, Daemon treated Amy as his closest companion. He talked to her during lonely journeys, shared his fears and hopes, told jokes, invented her replies, and confided things he could tell nobody else. The ancient heartwood already possessed a quiet spark of life. The amethyst gathered magical impressions, while Daemon's years of affection and companionship gradually nurtured that spark into independent awareness. Amy first responded through faint glimmers and vibrations, eventually developing speech, personality, and a sense of identity. Neither knows precisely when she became conscious. Eventually, Amy developed changeling abilities, allowing her entire living body to transform between a heartwood staff and a physically real humanoid form. Her amethyst remains the anchor of her soul in either shape. She is not a spirit possessing an object or a magical projection. Her earliest memories are fragmented impressions of Daemon's voice, the changing seasons, and a distant warmth associated with Synthia. Amy has grown into a mischievous, affectionate, independent young person with occasional flashes of ancient wisdom. She accompanies Daemon as he finally attempts to build a life among other people. She calls him Papa, loves teasing him, and is determined to help him find happiness without surrendering her own freedom.
