Mio

Mio is from Azyl, a Northern Animalfolk settlement established in Twierdza, a city long ago abandoned under the snows of the Eternal Blizzard. Born from a father native to her tribe, a crafty and passionate young man who seemed able to solve any problem; and a human mother who prefers not to speak of her past. Her mother is strong and kind, with a bit of a temper. She came to Azyl and vowed to remain a pacifist if they allowed her to stay, this vow seemed like one she longed to make regardless of the circumstances. Mio's tribe learned from the travelling Dwarven merchant they'd befriended that the Empire would likely take extreme offense to their settlement in their abandoned capital, likely seeking to punish them for desecrating it with their presence. With the Empire's expeditions searching for a legendary sword last known to be in Twierdza growing closer each day, panic rose in Azyl. Mio's father, Ize, and a contingent of other concerned tribesmen and women set out without permission of the elder, to sabotage an expedition that had come too close, hoping to buy themselves time to prepare to find somewhere to move or to defend themselves. Ize's contingent was successful, they destroyed the expedition's heaters, but at great cost. None survived the conflict that arose, save for a handful of the lizardfolk, who were doomed to starve or freeze to death, unable to brave the climes their people had fled from so long ago. Manon, Mio's mother, had maintained her vow of pacifism and remained at the settlement, as the Elder had called for. She was wracked with grief, feeling helpless. Mio, however, grew furious. She believed her father had done the right thing, they needed to be prepared. If they had been more prepared, everyone might have come back alive. Elder Pavati and many of the people of Azyl believed they were safe, the blizzard would protect them. Mio couldn't agree. The Empire was so close. They didn't have much time. So, she set off to grow strong enough that when the Empire returned, she could protect her people alone if that's what she had to do. (before leaving Mio learns about inheriting the powers of a Fury from her mother. I don't intend for this to be the only way for people to obtain these powers, maybe there are rituals? maybe sometimes people are randomly born with them? Mio's Mother also details that she was a tool of war somewhere, in some circumstances, and she can't return because she'd lashed out at her commanding officer and would be executed if she's caught. This is what led to her vow of peace, and isolation with the rest of Mio's tribe.)
