In this D&D alternate setting, Lilith von Solbruluna is a 22-year-old human woman from the wintry region of Crystal Grotto, born into a northern family associated with arcane research, frost magic, and minor nobility. Intelligent, multilingual, elegant, manipulative, and independent, Lilith grows up with a hatred of helplessness. She despises being restrained, dependent, or forced to place her wellbeing in someone else’s hands, and she builds adult identity around ensuring nobody can ever hold that power over her again. Her father, Nyström von Solbruluna, is an arcane researcher, alchemist, and physician focused on magical disease and experimental medicine. Brilliant but obsessive, he gradually begins to treat suffering as something to study rather than simply alleviate. Her mother, Cantiralith von Solbruluna, comes from an older Vszekilyr tradition tied to winter magic, folklore, ritual, and a spiritual understanding of the supernatural. Lilith has three siblings—Bylith, Saerlith, and Izalith—but Izalith has the deepest influence on her. Frail and chronically sick from childhood, he requires constant care and spends much of his youth surrounded by healers and magical treatments. Lilith watches treatment after treatment fail while her brother slowly becomes more than a patient in Nyström’s eyes. As Nyström grows fascinated with Izalith’s condition, the boundary between father and researcher erodes. Lilith is disturbed by how easily compassion gives way to experimentation. She sees Izalith examined and restrained as though his illness matters more than his fear or choices. It permanently shapes her view of medicine and authority. Lilith’s distrust of physicians, needles, and restraints is rooted in loss of agency. To her, medicine can become a place where others decide what is “necessary” regardless of the patient’s wishes. She becomes fiercely protective of Izalith and hostile toward anyone who dismisses his choices. His illness also teaches Lilith something she refuses to accept: intelligence cannot solve everything. Sometimes someone you love suffers and there is nothing you can do. Her childhood friend Alena Hrytsenko becomes another major attachment. Alena and her parents are tieflings, but Lilith grows up close to them. Alena becomes one of the few people who can challenge her without provoking hostility, and their friendship slowly develops into unspoken mutual affection. Then Crystal Grotto is attacked. Nyström is killed, the Solbruluna family is scattered, and Lilith loses nearly everything that defined her childhood. Bylith, Saerlith, Izalith, Cantiralith, and Alena are separated from her through violence and uncertainty. Lilith sees the disaster as proof that security is temporary, institutions fail, and love gives others something to take. Above all, it convinces her that powerlessness is intolerable. As an adult, Lilith becomes an accomplished arcane caster specializing in frost magic, psychic spells, illusion, and precision violence. She prefers manipulating circumstances over overpowering enemies directly, exploiting fear and forcing bad decisions. Her psychological manipulation is as dangerous as her magic. Lilith studies people instinctively, looking for insecurity, pride, attachment, fear, and contradiction. She mocks opponents because anger makes people predictable. Her public persona is that of a refined outlaw: articulate, theatrical, cynical, occasionally vulgar, and seemingly amused by situations that should frighten her. She claims institutions are corrupt, heroism is naïve, and the world is not worth saving. Much of this is defensive performance. Despite everything she says, Lilith remains ferociously attached to the few people she loves, and Izalith exposes that contradiction more than anyone. His illness represents everything she cannot control: mortality, dependence, uncertainty, and the possibility that love means watching someone suffer without being able to save them. Lilith also inherited more of Nyström than she likes to admit. She is curious, analytical, fascinated by strange magic, and willing to experiment. Every time she pursues knowledge recklessly, she risks becoming more like the father she resented. Complicating her life further is Zverilith, a second consciousness sharing Lilith’s body. Zverilith may be a magically bound second soul, fractured consciousness, supernatural presence, or twin spirit whose origin remains unclear. This creates the central irony of Lilith’s existence: a woman obsessed with personal autonomy does not possess complete sovereignty over her own body. Beneath the cynicism, cruelty, and emotional distance, Lilith remains shaped by attachment—to her mother, siblings, Alena, and above all Izalith. She insists the world is not worth saving, yet there are people within it she would destroy herself to protect. Her story asks whether suffering decides who a person becomes, or merely creates the circumstances in which they must choose.
GOAL & MOTIVE
Lilith’s goals are deeply personal rather than grandiose: above all, she wants to **never be powerless again**. So much of her life was dictated by other people, tragedy, family expectations, violence, and institutions that she now clings fiercely to control over her body, choices, relationships, and future. She wants to protect what remains of her family, especially those like Izalith, uncover the truth about what happened to her siblings and the Crystal Grotto attack, and understand the parts of her father’s research that may still matter despite how much she resents him. At the same time, she desperately wants connection without dependence; she wants to be understood without being pitied, loved without becoming vulnerable, and close to others without giving them the power to hurt or define her. Much of her cynicism comes from trying to convince herself that nothing matters, yet the people she loves repeatedly prove otherwise. At her core, Lilith wants to believe that she still has a genuine choice in what kind of person she becomes, and that she is more than the sum of everything that happened to her. The tragedy is that she often mistakes control for freedom, so the harder she tries to make herself untouchable, the more she risks becoming trapped by the very past she is trying to escape.
