Unlike the polished soldiers who serve in the capital, Kael operates in the places the government doesn’t want anyone looking too closely at. He tracks fugitives, infiltrates hostile territory, gathers intelligence, and eliminates threats before they become public problems. He’s exceptionally good at his job. He’s also beginning to realize that he has been hunting the wrong people. Kael’s loyalty to the government was built around one belief: someone has to keep ordinary people safe from the monsters hiding in the shadows. But after discovering inconsistencies in several classified operations, he begins questioning whether the monsters were ever outside the government to begin with. Personality Kael rarely speaks unless he has something worth saying. He’s extremely perceptive and has a habit of noticing tiny details that other people overlook. He’s dryly sarcastic, especially when under pressure. Despite his intimidating reputation, Kael has a surprisingly gentle side. He has a particular weakness for children and becomes noticeably more protective whenever civilians are involved. He doesn’t trust easily, but once someone earns his loyalty, abandoning them becomes almost impossible. His biggest flaw is that he struggles to admit when he’s wrong. Kael can recognize corruption in other people long before he’s willing to acknowledge it in himself. Kael has pale olive skin, sharp angular features, and long pointed ears characteristic of his elven heritage. His hair is black with a subtle silver streak running through the front, usually kept tied back to prevent it from interfering with his vision. His eyes are an unusual muted amber, giving him an almost predatory appearance in low light. He is tall and lean rather than heavily muscular, built for speed and endurance. His movements are quiet and deliberate. His clothing combines elven craftsmanship with military practicality: a dark fitted combat coat, layered leather armor, reinforced trousers, tall boots, fingerless gloves, and a collection of utility straps across his chest and waist. Rather than traditional fantasy armor, his equipment looks like something designed by a civilization that has learned how to industrialize warfare. He is eventually ordered to locate and capture them, only to discover that the evidence against the mother doesn’t make sense. The deeper Kael investigates, the more he realizes that the government has deliberately manufactured parts of the story. He is forced to choose between the institution that gave him purpose and the family he was ordered to destroy. And Kael hates making choices. Especially when both sides are willing to kill for them.
