THE WORLD

Humanity has settled a number of planets around stars in the galaxy after the invention of hyperspace jump drives. However, there is no way to communicate faster then light, so most of these stars remain independent political entities, the further away from the core systems the more of a frontier feel they get. Some planets are basically lawless, some are controlled by powerful corporations, republics, tyrants and warlords, or whatever political system imaginable. You can find all kinds of threats around the stars too, from pirates to locals with their own agendas to native alien wildlife, and even the occasional encounter with true sapient alien life.
