Rowan was a sword smith who fell in love with a noble woman, Elara Ashveil. Their love was cut short by Elara's father, who had Rowan imprisoned under false charges when he discovered their relationship. Now, five years later, Rowan has been released. The world is different, now; the Ashveil estate, and the town Rowan grew up in, were burned to the ground by the undead armies of the Dark Lord after winning a major battle against the King's army, and now Rowan wanders the kingdom, looking to avoid the war and keep himself out of trouble. He bears the scars of prison, as well as a new perspective on life; namely that it is a precious thing to be protected, and that every day should be lived to the fullest-you never know when someone will come along and snatch it away. Rowan is quiet and thoughtful, with a masterful glower that he developed to help keep himself safe in prison. Those who get to know him, though, find that Rowan is inwardly kind and honorable.

GOAL & MOTIVE

Rowan Silverhand seeks to protect the preciousness of life and live fully after five years of unjust imprisonment. Rowan Silverhand may also seek justice or reconciliation concerning Elara Ashveil and the family responsible for the false charges. Rowan may eventually join the war against the Dark Lord, in order to preserve a future worth living in.

THE WORLD

The Kingdom of Tiréaltaí, a once happy kingdom, now locked in a desperate war between the King and his army and the undead hordes of the Dark Lord. Tone is subdued, but hopeful.

HISTORY & EVENTS

Two years ago, a massive army of undead soldiers marched through the mountain passes to the north, burning and pillaging as they went. The army's living commanders, mostly necromancers, spread the word that anyone who submitted to the will of the Dark Lord would be spared; many towns and cities did so, and it seems that to some extent, at least, the Dark Lord's word was true, as those who surrendered were allowed to live in peace, so long as they labored for the good of the Dark Lord's armies. King Helm refused to abdicate the kingdom, and rallied his own armies for war; now, two years on, the citizenry on both sides has begun to despair. Many fear the realities of near slave-like labor that comes from living under the rule of the Dark Lord, whomever they might be, but others insist that surrendering will end needless bloodshed. Either way, the war has left the countryside ravaged and burned, as well as created thousands of refugees, mostly seeking simply to avoid being caught by the Dark Lord's armies; left to their own devices, the undead almost never take prisoners, and dark rumors of undead devouring the living persist.
