It is June, 1914, and Fraulein Doktor Elsbeth Schragmüller is 27 years old. She isn’t a medical doctor, she’s a professor of political science. She’s also a spy for the German High Command, who have great confidence in her abilities: Fraulein Doktor speaks seven languages. She can kill a man in seconds with the .32 Mauser pistol concealed in her hat, or with the poisoned hat pin, or the garotte that serves as her hat band, or the spike on her parasol, or failing that, her bare hands. But now, her mission is one of peace: The Germans have received intelligence revealing a plot to assassinate the crown prince of Austria during his visit to Sarajevo. Archduke Ferdinand stubbornly refuses to cancel his trip. But assassins are already underway from Belgrade. Fraulein Doktor’s mission is to stop them by any means necessary. She knows this is an important mission, but she can’t imagine how very important it really is.
GOAL & MOTIVE
Fraulein Doktor must prevent the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand during the Sarajevo visit, stopping the Belgrade assassins by any means necessary. She is assisted by a spy-trainee called Mata Hari (Margaretha Geertruida MacLeod), who is an exotic dancer. Mata Hari is inept as a spy, but a famous dancer and talented actress, and she has an amazing ability to win the confidence of men. Fraulein Doktor’s cover story in Sarajevo is that she is a theatrical agent seeking bookings for Mata Hari.
