Perhaps Valintal can be cast in a retelling of the Greek myth of Sisyphus kidnapping Thanatos, the god of death.

Suffering from his disease, but unable to die because of Thanatos' kidnapping, Valintal volunteers to help Ares rescue Thanatos so that he (Valintal) can die as a hero.
